Competency Name: PL/SQL

Broad Definition: This competency refers to the ability of the associate to program in PL/SQL

E0 (Elementary):
• Should be capable of writing simple to medium complexity SQL statements.
• Should have knowledge of the following:
a. PL/SQL architecture
b. PL/SQL Basics, Variables, Constants, data types & error handling
c. Simple blocks
d. Control structures

E1 (Exposure):
• Should have spent at least 1 year working on this competency after acquiring E0 proficiency in this
competency
• Should be able to identify situations when it is advantageous to use PL/SQL over SQL*plus
• Should have developed PL/SQL packages and procedures complete with exception handling
• Should be able to use cursors in PL/SQL code
• Should need minimal supervision/ guidance for independent developmental activities in PL/SQL
• Should have cleared the corresponding relevant Exit test / certification for this level in the i-CALMS

E2 (Experience):
• Should have spent at least 1 year working on this competency after acquiring E1 proficiency in this
competency
• Should have experience of at least 1.5 years as a Tech Lead (Architect and Designer) in a project
• Should have worked independently on multiple PL/SQL programming projects out of which at least one
project is a pure development project
• Should have performed code walkthroughs and suggested optimizations
• Should have contributed towards a technical solution and estimated effort for a new opportunity
• Should have thorough understanding of dynamic SQL
• Should have had an opportunity to use performance tuning and optimization of PL/SQL code
• Should be a Oracle Certified Associate in PL/SQL or should have cleared an equivalent certification (for
current version)
