Documentation Nomenclature
This manual uses the following protocol to present
information.
• Bold characters set apart keystrokes (in bold type) that
you must press on the keyboard or numeric keypad for a
defined action or input.
• The Keyname notation refers to a specific key on the
keyboard or keypad. For example, Ctrl refers to the
control key, which is usually labeled CTRL or Ctrl.
• The Keyname1 + Keyname2 notation means that two
keys must be pressed at the same time. The user does
this by holding down one key and pressing the other key.
Situations in which this occurs usually include the Shift,
Alt, or the Ctrl keys.
• The DOS® Operating System, used on IBM® and
compatible computers, does not differentiate between
upper and lower case characters. DOS commands in this
manual appear in lower case and bold type.
• When the computer generates characters on the monitor
or display and a response is required from the user,
these are italicized in the documentation.

Tuning
Once the Red Eye 2G has been configured with proper air,
water, and oil absorbance calibration factors, the unit will
calculate water cut based on all four wavelength
measurements. For most applications this is all that is
needed for full range (0-100%) water cut measurement.
In some instances empirical tuning may improve overall
performance. There are a couple options which can be
configured through RedLine, tapered offset and disable
channel.

Tapered Offset
In some instances the 2G measured response can exhibit a
slight bow shape above or below the actual values. Provided
the water and oil calibrations are good, the 0% and 100%
water cuts should match up well so a straight offset is not
appropriate.

BM-REDLINE-00 / Rev. B
RedLine™ User Manual
The tapered offset concept allows you to specify an offset at
one water cut and have that offset diminish to 0 as the
mixture approaches 0 or 100%.
In the Service Screen,
registers 41361 to
41519 list “Water Cut
Measurement” and
“Water Cut Reference”
pairs for each of the 40
possible wells. The
default values for these
are set to 0.5 which
implies no offset is
applied, but these can
be set to cause an
offset to be applied.
The allowable range is
0.5 to 99.5 for each
value.
For example, if the
“Water Cut
Measurement” for the
above well was set to
73 and the “Water Cut
Reference” was set to 70, an offset would be applied to the
calculated result that varied from -3 to 0 based on the
calculated result.
If the calculated result were 73%, then the offset would be -
3% for a final reported value of 70%. If the calculated result
were 21%, then the offset would be approximately -1% for a
final result of 20%. If the calculated result were 0%, then no
offset would be added.

Disable Channel
By default, the Red Eye 2G uses all four channels in the
calculation of water cut. Only three channels are actually
required to perform the calculation. Normally the use of four
channels gives the best performance, but in some cases
dropping a channel may give improved performance.
Register 40082, “Channel to be switched off” which is
accessible via the Service Screen, is used to drop a channel
if desired. The default value is 0 (all channels used). A
setting of “1” means channel 1 (1110nm) will be dropped
from the calculation. Values of 2,3, or 4 result in dropping
channels 2,3, or 4 respectively.
The Red Eye 2G will automatically drop a channel from the
calculation if the raw channel value drops too low. The low
signal cutoff threshold is set by register 40077 “Min
Photocurrent value”. This is nominally set to 10, but in some
instances a lower or higher value may improve performance.
Contact the factory before adjusting.
