Introduction to the Data Model Viewer- Evaluate Data

• Box for each table All matching field names are used as
key fields to form associations
between tables (regardless of whether
the field contents match)
• Table associations are formed based on matching field names
o lines connect key fields, identified with key icon Changes all field names to initially
block associations

o resembles a SQL natural outer join

You may use the
associations bubble view to
configure associations

• Resize and reposition options, lock to prevent changes

• Zoom, scroll, restore zoom level to 1:1

• Show directly-related tables with orange shaded lines by clicking

on table headers or key fields

• Preview Panel
o Table metadata ▪ Rows
▪ Fields
o Field metadata ▪ Density ▪ Total distinct values
▪ Subset ratio ▪ Present distinct values
▪ Non-null values

Introduction to the Data Model Viewer- Potential Issues

Identical field names are required to form associations

o If field names are not identical, required associations cannot form Missing connection, due to underscore in
one name, but not the other

Duplicate field names may result in circular references

o Circular reference = more than one path between fields
(‘loosely-coupled’ tables)

Common field names may result in a composite key relationship

o Synthetic keys = anonymous fields that represent all occurring combinations of the
composite key

Options to resolve data model issues:

❑ Correct field names at the source

❑ Correct associations using the Data manager

Edit tables - or - Use the Associations bubbles view

❑ Correct associations by modifying the script in the Data load editor
