The Nursery Sod Growers Association of Ontario (NSGA) has introduced a new "Green" Certification program for its members after two years of development. The goal of the program is to assure consumers that certified sod growers meet high standards for environmental protection, conservation practices, workplace safety, recycling, and community engagement. Several sod grower members have already achieved Green Certification under the new program.

In addition, the program promotes a safe workplace Green Certification environment, recycling and community relations. The program is designed to certify sod operations that are meeting the NSGA standards. In order to receive certification, all sites owned or leased by a grower must participate in an independent third-party on-site audit. Upon certification, each operation must submit an annual report and conduct an on-site verification audit a minimum of once every three years.
