Enrolling An Android Device in AirWatch
Enrolling An Android Device in AirWatch
The instructions below show how you to enroll an Android device (Smartphone or
Tablet) with the AirWatch Mobile Device Management (MDM) system.
Depending on the version of Android running on your phone or tablet, some steps,
including the encryption steps, may be skipped. This is normal.
PLEASE NOTE: If you work on-site at a client, and that client requires that you use their
Mobile Device Management software (examples are: AirWatch, MobileIron, MaaS360,
Afaria, Good) on your mobile device, you will not be able to continue with these
instructions. You will need to use Outlook Web Access (OWA) in your mobile device’s
web browser. The links are as follows:

Enroll Your Device with AirWatch
Follow these steps to enroll your device with AirWatch. Please ensure your battery is at
80% or higher, and your device is plugged into a power source before you begin.
5. Once the app has installed, tap Open to open the AirWatch Agent and continue
the device enrollment.
6. When the AirWatch Agent opens tap the blue QR Code icon on the bottom of the
screen. Do not choose Email Address or Server Details.
7. Point your device’s rear camera towards the QR Code below. The AirWatch Agent
should read the QR Code and pick up the information needed to continue the
activation process.
a. If you are not close to your desktop computer, you can use an alternative
method of activating.
i. Tap the Server Details button.
8. Some Android devices from vendors including Samsung, HTC, and Motorola,
require an additional service to be installed. If you are prompted to install a
vendor specific service, tap Continue. If you are not prompted, please skip to step
11.
- ok
9. Tap Install at the bottom of the screen. You may need to scroll down through the
list of permissions before the Install button becomes active.
10. Tap Activate at the bottom of the screen to activate the Samsung service.
11. On the next screen, enter your Portal ID for the username, and your Portal
password for the password, and tap Continue.
12. Tap Accept to agree to and accept the NTT DATA Mobile Device Policy.
16. Tap Device Settings. If you have previously allowed your device to install apps
from unknown sources, step 16, 17, and 18 will be skipped.
17. Check the box to the right of Unknown sources.
19. Tap Device Settings to set your device’s lock screen password. If you already
have a 6-digit PIN, this step will be skipped. If you already have any device PIN or
password, remember that the next screen you see will be prompting for your
current password.
20. Once your password has been set, you will automatically be returned to the
AirWatch setup. Tap Device Settings to start encrypting your device. Please note
that if your Android device is running Android 6.0 or later (also called
Marshmallow), encryption is handled automatically by the operating system and
you can skip to step 24 below.
21. Tap Encrypt device. You will then be asked to enter your device passcode. This is
the 6 digit passcode you chose in step 19.
22. If you are using a Samsung device, certain models allow you to select Fast
Encryption. Check the box next to Fast encryption if you see it and tap Encrypt
device.
23. Your device will start encrypting. Please note that it may reboot one or two times
during the encryption phase. If you are using a Samsung device that provided the
ability to use Fast encryption in the previous step, encryption should not take
more than a few minutes. Otherwise encryption normally takes 30 minutes to one
hour.
a. Once the encryption completes and your device reboots for the last time,
you will be prompted to enter a password to decrypt your device. This is
the lock screen password you chose earlier.
b. Now that your device is encrypted, anytime you reboot it, you will need to
type in the password to decrypt it.
24. With the exception of Location, tap each permission, and choose to grant
AirWatch access. Please note that even if you accidentally grant the AirWatch
Agent permission to your Location, it will not be collected as this is against our
policy. Tap Continue to move to the next screen.
25. Tap Continue to complete the configuration.
26. Next, you will get a prompt “AirWatch Application Install” in your phone
notification bar and click on it.
27. Then click on VMware Boxer and it will redirect to Play Store
30. The very first view of the app immediately after configuring email account is the
Inbox mail view. You can also choose to view the Calendar, Contacts, and Files by
tapping the icons.
31. Boxer Contacts: This next step is optional, but recommended. Because your NTT
DATA contacts are now stored in the AirWatch Contacts app and not your
Android Contacts app, when you receive incoming calls or text messages, the
person’s name will not be displayed. To rectify this, you can export your contacts
from the AirWatch Contacts app to the Android Contacts app.
a. Tap the Setting icon on the bottom right inside Boxer app.
b. Next, scroll down and check if Enable caller ID is enabled.
32. You should now be done with the AirWatch setup and ready to use NTT DATA
email, contacts, and calendar with the AirWatch Boxer.
IMPORTANT NOTE: After you complete your enrollment, you may see an email telling
you that your mobile device is quarantined. This is normal, and your mobile device
should be automatically un-quarantined within 15 minutes, although depending on the
time of day, this can take up to 30 minutes. In the rare situation where your email is still
not synchronizing to your mobile device after 30 minutes, please contact the IT Service
Desk.
What Has Been Installed?
After you successfully enroll your device with AirWatch, you will see a few new apps.
• AirWatch Samsung
▪ This app is pre-installed to allow AirWatch to manage Samsung
devices effectively. Non-Samsung devices may see their
manufacturer’s service.
• WorkSimple.
▪ WorkSimple is an app that provides access to NTT DATA’s
internal mobile apps. The internal apps are called Zapps.
▪ Today we have the following mobile apps (or Zapps):
• Employee Search
• Time Entry
• Remedy Case Creation
• Remedy Case Approvals (Managers only)
• Time Approvals (Managers only)
• Expense Approvals (Managers only).
o Recently removed due to the launch of Concur.
• Employee Search.
▪ Employee Search is a shortcut to run the Employee Search
WorkSimple Zapp.
• The remaining app icons will vary based on which mobile apps you are required to
have on your mobile device.
AirWatch Self Service Portal
Once you have enrolled one or more mobile devices with AirWatch, you will be able to
login to your Self Service Portal. This portal allows you to take some actions like remote
wiping only the corporate NTT DATA off your device (leaving your personal data
untouched), clearing the lock screen password if you forget it, or making your device play
a sound if you have misplaced it.
a. Please note that the first time you visit this login screen you will be
required to enter the characters in blue to verify that you are not a robot.
3. Start by clicking on the device you want to see (if you have more than one).
4. You will only really need to use the Basic Actions tab. Here are some of the useful
actions you can take:
a. Make Noise – Click this action to force your device to play a sound and
display a message if you have misplaced it. This is useful if you have
misplaced it some where close and the noise will direct you to your device,
or if you think you have misplaced it in a public area and you want
someone to find it and call you.
b. Clear Passcode – Click this if you have forgotten your device lock screen
passcode. When you clear your passcode, you will be prompted to enter a
new one upon unlocking your device.
c. Lock Device – Click this to force your device to lock immediately. This
overrides the lock screen idle timeout. This is useful if you have misplaced
your device and don’t want someone getting access to the data on it before
the device automatically locks itself.
d. Enterprise Wipe – Click this to wipe all NTT DATA corporate email,
contacts, calendar, and apps from your device. Your personal data is left
untouched. On some Android devices, any apps installed will be left behind
and you will need to uninstall them manually.
