This Standard for wrought copper and wrought
copper alloy solder joint seamless fittings, designed
for use with copper water tube, covers: 2.2 Bursting Strength
( a ) pressure-temperature ratings;
Fittings manufactured to this Standard shall have
( b ) abbreviations for end connections; an ambient temperature bursting strength of at least
(c) size and method of designating openings of
four times the 100°F rated internal working pressure
fittings;
as shown in Table 1.

The following symbols are used to designate the
type of fitting end.

this Standard, the convention for fixingsignificant FTG = solder joint fitting end made to copper tube
digits where limits, maximumor minimum values,are diameter (male)
specified shallbe “rounding off”as defined in ASTM F = internal ANSI standard taper pipe thread
E 29. This requires that an observed or calculated (female) NPTI
value shall be rounded off to the nearest unit in the M =external ANSI standard taper pipe thread
last right-hand digit used for expressing the limit. (male) NPTE
NOTES:
(1)The fitting pressure rating applies to the largest opening of the fitting.
(2)For size designation of fittings, see Section 4.

STRENGTH OF SOLDER JOINTS
(This Annexis an integral partof ASME B16.22-1995 and is placed after the
main text for convenience.)
The maximum recommended pressure-temperature ratings for solder joints made with
copper tube and wrought copper and copper alloy pressure fittings, using representative
commercial solders, are listed in Table1.1.
GENERAL NOTE:
For extremely low working temperatures
in the 0°F to minus 200°F range, it is recornmended that joint
a material melting at or above
1100°F be employed [see Note (511.
NOTES:

(3) The Safe Drinking Water Act Amendment of 1986 prohibits theuse in potable water systemsof any solder having a lead content
in
excess of 0.2%.
(a) (4) ASTM B 32 alloyGrade sb5.
(5) These joining materials are defined as brazing alloys by the American Welding Society.
