OUTCOMES
Unit Unit 8: Making Requests and Asking for Advice
Outcomes At the end of this unit, the students will be able to:
1) Explain situation, then make request decline and give reason.
2) Produce correct form and movement for fingerspelling months using Incorporate
number for MONTH.
3) Participate in dialogue about situations, making requests and agreeing with conditions.
4) Modify verbs to agree with subjects and objects (from me to you to someone to another)
5) Produce correct form and movement when giving phone numbers
6) Explain situation, make request and agree with conditions.

8) Comprehend interrupts and explain why you are late or have to leave early in a polite
way in the Deaf culture.

LESSON PROCEDURE
3) Two students in a group pick a season and discuss (1.5 min practice)
-Sign a season and tell their favorite season and tell why
Independent In the drawing activity, in groups of 4, each group discusses what to draw a 10 mins
Practice picture on the white board. Drawing a picture must be one of seasons (e.g.
WINTER with snowmen, fireplace, and cabin). Then, each group will create
a story based on season(s), name of months, and the number of months.
Have a student from each group will tell a story in front of the audience.
Cultural Describe what deaf people usually do in each of a season. 5 mins
Application -Deaf people go to Homecoming in OCT
-Deaf camps during summer time (Youth camps and TimberFest)
-Deaf Awareness in SEPT
-Deaf Expo
-Clerc Classic Tournament
-Spike Out Tournament
Closure In Unit 8, quickly ask students to share what they’ve learned during class. 5 mins
Explain what students will do with their assignment via GoReact. Answer
questions. Dismiss class.
Assessment Informal: During paired and group activities, model ASL, constructive N/A
feedbacks, rephrase, clarify, form of movement, etc.
Observation: During paired and group activities, check how they do during
group activities.
Formal: Submit 30 seconds- 1 minute video via GoReact sharing your
experiences in the real event that we discussed in class. This must include
features; fingerspelling months (e.g. Jan or April), month (incorporated
numbers), and seasons (e.g. Fall or Spring). Evaluate using a rubric
(attached).
Formative: Feedbacks being provided via GoReact so students can do final
draft. Feedbacks will be based on Rubric.
