1. a) Explain in detail – Resonant Cavities (6)

b) Obtain the field equations for TM mode to Z and TE mode to Z also find the expression for
phase constant resonant frequency and resonant wavelength (TM mode).

2. A rectangular cavity with dimensions a=3.5 cm b= 5cm c=10cm is filled with a dielectric
material Єr=4.5. Calculate the resonant frequency of the dominant mode. (3)

3. For an air filled rectangular cavity with dimensions a=3cm b=2cm c=4cm. Determine the
resonant frequencies for the following modes TE 011, TE101, TM110, TM111 . List the resonant
frequencies in ascending order. (3)

4. An air filled cubical cavity operates at a resonant frequency of 2GHz when excited at the
TE101 mode. Determine the dimensions of the cavity. (3)
