1 Sketch the functional schematic of IC555 timer and explain. C212.4
2 Discuss the operation of IC555 timer as astable multi vibrator with relevant circuit diagram,
waveforms and derive the expression for duty cycle.
3 Construct an astable multi vibrator circuit using IC555 timer to obtain a square wave of frequency
5khz at 50% duty cycle.
4 Discuss the operation of IC555 timer as mono-stable multi vibrator with relevant circuit diagram,
waveforms and derive the expression for pulse width.
5 Consider the FET amplifier of Fig. shown below for the case Vt 0.4 V, Kn 4 mA/V2, VGS 0.65 V, VDD 1.8 C212.1
V, and RD 8 kΩ.
a) Find the dc quantities ID and VD.
(b) Calculate the value of gm at the bias point.
(c) Calculate the value of the voltage gain.
(d) If the MOSFET has λ0.1 /V, find r0 at the bias point and calculate the voltage gain.

An NMOS amplifier is to be designed to provide a 0.50-V peak output signal across a 50 kΩ load that can be

used as a drain resistor. If a gain of at least 5 V/V is needed, what gm is required? Using a dc supply of 1.8 V,
what values of ID and VOV would you choose? What W/L ratio is required if µn Cox 200 µA/V2? If Vt 0.4 V, find
VGS
An NMOS technology has µn Cox 250 µA/V2 and Vt0.5 V. For a transistor with L 0.5 µm, find the value of
7 W that results in gm1 mA/V at ID 0.25 mA. Also, find the required VGS
A transistor with β120 is biased to operate at a dc collector current of 0.6 mA. Find the values of gm, rπ, and re.
8 Repeat for a bias current of 60 µA.
9 A BJT is biased to operate in the active mode at a dc collector current of 0.5 mA. It has a βof 100. Give the two
small-signal models of the BJT complete with the values of their parameters.
10 Using a 3-V power supply, design a version of the circuit of Fig. shown below to provide a dc emitter current of
0.5 mA and to allow a 1-V signal swing at the collector. The BJT has a nominal β100. Use standard 5%
resistor values. If the actual BJT used has β50, what emitter current is obtained? Also, what is the allowable
signal swing at the collector? Repeat for β150
