A robot is a system that uses sensors, control systems, manipulators, power supplies, and software to perform tasks. Robots need to be able to sense their surroundings, move within their environment, power themselves, and have some level of programmed intelligence. Common applications of robots include industrial manufacturing, medical procedures, and bionics. While robots increase productivity and allow humans to focus on more skilled jobs, their use also presents disadvantages such as potential malfunctions and higher operational costs.

Robotics
1- What is a robot ?
it is a system that contains sensors , control systems ,
manipulators , power supplies and software all working together to perform a task .
2- What are the essential characteristics of robots ?
a. Robot would have to be able to sense its surroundings
. Giving a robot sensors : light sensors ( eyes ) , touch and pressure sensors ( hands ) , chemical sensors ( nose ) , hearing and sonar sensors ( ears ) , and taste sensors ( tongue ) will give the robot awareness of its environment .
b. Movement a robot needs to be able to move around
its environment . Whether rolling on wheels , walking on legs or propelling by thrusters . A robot needs to be able to move . c. Energy a robot needs to be able to power itself . A robot might be solar powered , electrically powered , battery powered . The way the robot gets its energy will depend on what it needs to do .
d. Intelligence a robot needs some kind of " smarts " .
This is where programming enters the pictures . A programmer is the person who gives the robot its smarts . The robot will have to have some way to receive the program so that it knows what it is to do .
3- Robots applications are :
a. Industrial applications : Robotics and automation play
a important role for mass production of objects in MNC's.
b. Medical applications : To perform the complex
operations in delicate regions of the body robots especially nanobots are used .
c. Bionics : It is one of the most popular and advanced
field of applications of robotics , where the region of human body which is disabled is replaced by a robotic one and is controlled by muscle simulation . 4_ What are the advantages of robotics ?
a. Robots have more productivity compare to humans in
the same time period . Robots can produce 25% to 40% more parts annually .
b. Robots can perform routine and repetitive tasks easily
. This will free up human resources to perform more value addition jobs .
c. In certain situations , robots can help in saving huge
amount of labour costs .
d. Business can achieve Return on Investment ( ROI )
quickly and in less time period due to high productivity .
5_ What are the disadvantages of robotics ?
a. If the robots are not well maintained , it will
malfunction , this may be disastrous during manufacturing or production processes .
b. Operational costs are higher due to power costs and
grease costs . c. The robots can easily be targeted by wrongdoers .
