NOT Gate Using Transistor
Theory :
A Boolean operator with only one Value variable that has the value One when the variable is zero and
vice versa NOT Gate is called the inverter because output state is always opposite to the input state , So
when the input is Low signal output is High signal and vice versa . It is called NOT Gate .
Becouse the output state is always opposite to that of the input state . A transistor may be used
as inverter. NOT Gate is a nice digital logic Gate . ANOT Gate perform a logical negation on its output .
In other words, If the input is true then the output will be false.
Symbolic Representation :
Boolean Expression :
Boolean expression of NOT Gate is :
X=A
Where A` is reciprocal of A it means that if input is “ 0 ” or Low then output is “ 1 ”
or High
Truth Table :
ONE Input NOT Gate
Two Input NOT Gate
Apparatus :
i. Bread Board
ii. Resistors
iii. Transistor
iv. Battery
v. Connecting Wires
Procedure :
Case 1 :- When input is 1, As soon as the transistor becomes ON, the
supply voltage will get a path to the earth through the resistor R. At ON condition the
transistor will behave short circuited ideally, hence entire supply voltage will drop across
resistor R and no voltage appear at X and hence the output of the inverter will be “ 0 ”
Zero.
Case :- When input is zero, Base terminal of the transistor is “ 0V ” or
grounded . At that condition as base of the transistor is at “ 0 ” potential, the transistor
will be in off condition and hence the supply voltage will not get any path to the earth so
the entire supply voltage will appear at output terminal of the inverter is High or at
Logical 1, When input terminal A is Low or logical zero .
