Lab Report #4

The student performed an experiment to standardize a NaOH solution. They found: 1) The molarity of their KHP standard solution was 0.04766M. 2) They titrated 7mL of 10M NaOH solution with 700mL water. 3) By titrating the KHP solution with the NaOH solution, they calculated an average volume of NaOH used of 12.12mL with a standard deviation of 0.1560. 4) From this, they determined the molarity of their NaOH solution to be 0.09835M.

Experiment 4 Lab report – Standardization of NaOH solution

Procedure

Procedure can be seen in my lab manual on page 10. One change was that we used 7ml of NaOH instead
of 6ml also and we added 100ml more water.

Part A –Experimental Data

Mass of weighing tray 2.327g

Mass of weighing tray + KHP 4.760g
Volume of Solution 250.00ml

Part A- Calculated Results

Mass of KHP 2.433g

Molarity of KHP solution 0.04766M

Discussion/Questions
1. My results were very close together which means that they were precise but they were
not as accurate as they are all bit off from the theoretical value. Errors could be due to
NaOH reacting to CO2 in the atmosphere.
2. There was no bad data.
