Kumasi Technical University: Department: Electrical/Electronic Engineering Class: HND 3

The document provides instructions for a computer applications assignment involving circuit simulation and analysis using Multisim. Students are asked to: 1) Construct and simulate the circuit in Figure 1, measuring voltages and currents and calculating voltage loops. 2) Construct and simulate the circuit in Figure 2, measuring voltages and currents under normal, open circuit, and short circuit conditions. 3) Analyze the simulations to verify circuit principles like Kirchhoff's laws and observe the effects of open/short circuits.

Course Code: EEE459
Name of Examiner(s): Linus Antonio Ofori AGYEKUM
Due Date: December 20, 2019
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Answer All Questions.
2. Late Submissions attracts 5 marks deduction per day.
3. Save all simulated figures in the following format StudentName_StudentID_Figur#
4. All simulated circuits shall be sent to [email protected] on or before Friday, December 20,

Assignment

Figure 1
1. Construct the circuit shown in Figure 1 using Multisim.
2. Measure and record the voltages VAB, VBC, VAD, VDC, VBD, and VAC. Note the polarities of
the voltages.
3. Measure and record the currents IAB, ICB, IAD, ICD and IFA. Note the polarity (sign) of the
currents.
4. Calculate the voltages around the following loops and record them in Table 4.
ABCEFA, ABDA, BDCB, ABCDA.
5. Verify KCL by adding the currents at nodes A, B, C, D.
6. a). Do the simulated and theoretical values of voltages and currents agree? Give possible reasons
for any discrepancies.
b). Are KVL and KCL verified? Give reasons for any discrepancies.
Mid-Sem

Figure 2
7. Construct the circuit in Figure 2 on Multisim. Put the meters in the appropriate places to read
voltages across and currents through each resistor.
8. Run the simulation. Record all the voltages and currents in the circuit. You can use ammeters for
current measurements, voltmeter for voltage measurements or multimeter for both. Note the current
directions and voltage polarities shown in Figure 2.
9. Remove the 5-V source from the circuit. Replace it by a short circuit.
10. Run the simulation. Measure the voltages and currents and record them.
11. Put the 5-V source back to the circuit. Remove the 10-V source and replace it by a
short circuit.
12. Run the simulation. Record all the voltages and currents in the circuit.
13. a). State and check for the principle applied. State your observations.
b). The stated principle applies for only certain types of circuit. What is the type?
c). The stated principle or theorem applies to only some variables or quantities like current and
voltage. It does not apply to, for example, power. State why not.
