PART - A QUESTIONS:

1. What is the importance of lead angle?

2. Compare VR stepper motor, PM stepper motor and hybrid stepper motor.

3. What is the function of driver circuit in stepper motor? Name the various driver
circuits used in stepper motor.

4. What is logical sequencer? Draw the circuit of logical sequencer using JK flip-
flops.

5. Define: Holding torque and Detent torque of stepper motor.

6. A stepping motor has 130 steps per revolution. Find the input digital pulse rate
that produces continuous rotation at a speed of 10.5 revolutions/ sec.

7. Calculate the stepping angle for a 3 phase, 24pole permanent magnet stepper

m2from 500Hz to 1500Hz in 50 ms. The frictional torque is 0.03 Nm and step
angle is 1.18º.

Explain the advantages of closed loop control of stepper motor?`

5. A single stack 3-phase variable reluctance motor has a step angle of 15º. Find
the number of stator and rotor poles.

6. Explain the construction and principle of operation of VR stepper motor with


single phase ON mode and two-phase ON mode.
