Explain How Mathematics Is Used in The Following Areas
1. PHYSICS
2. CHEMISTRY
Mathematics was used in variety of tasks in chemistry for example when it comes to balancing a
chemical reaction. Mathematical calculations were used because it is necessary to explore
important concepts in chemistry, and utilize dimensional analysis to find any range of
information about reactions from finding the mass of chemicals reacted to the concentration of
a chemical in a solution. It is also used in calculating energy reactions , compression of a gas,
grams needed to add to a solution to reach desired concentration, and quantities of reactants
needed to reach a desired product and also in when the particles are built with mathematical
models and chemists used is in analyzing the result. In fact, the “solution” to a math problem is
often in the understanding of the behavior of the process described by the mathematics, rather
than the specific numerical result.
3. BIOLOGY
Even though physics and biology are very different sciences, mathematicians and biologists
developed the "mathematical biology" or "biomathematics" as a recent discipline for the
mathematical representation in biology to the theoretical and practical applications in biological,
biomedical and biotechnology researches. Another contribution of mathematics to biology is a
mathematical modeling to address the biological process.
4. ENGINEERING
There is no such thing as engineering without mathematics. All engineering fields require
mathematics in order to engineer a lot of things. For example, Mechanical engineering is based
on nothing but mathematics — geometry, trigonometry, heavy doses of algebras. Also, If
aerospace engineering — well, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, satellite orbital analysis are just
about all applied mathematics. It’s kind of difficult to imagine how engineering and mathematics
can be separated.
5. LINGUISTICS
Mathematics can be used in also the area of linguistics and two applications may me. First is the
computational linguistics in which is the analysis of very large samples of language using
software. Second is the phonetics in which is the study of how speech sounds are created in the
vocal tract—is the frequencies of the voice. These are measured and usually illustrated in
graphic form (a spectrogram). The combinations of frequencies and their durations can be
analyzed.
