INTRODUCTION
• This area came in limelight when the people living nearby faced problem
by the over filling and the placement of the dumping area.
• This incident throws light on the failure of the organization for proper
dumping of waste.
• Lakes were present in the surrounding landuse before but now they were
not present
ISSUES
◦ LOCATION
◦ Dumping yard is at higher elevation from residential area
CONCLUSION
The collection bins must be have a large enough capacity to
accommodate 20% more than the expected waste generation in the
area.
Municipal authorities should maintain the storage facilities to avoid
unhygienic &
unsanitary condition.
It is advisable to move from open dumping to sanitary land filling in
a phased manner
WASTE SEGREGATION AT MY HOME
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT
Waste management is the
1-segregation of waste
2-storage collection
3-transport and handling
4-recycling
5-disposal and monitoring of waste materials
Segregation of waste
At my house we have now adopted two separate dustbin one for
wet(bio-degradable) waste and another for dry waste(recyclable waste).
We don’t use separate dustbin for paper as we keep paper aside for
“Raddiwala” or “scrap dealer”
Storage collection
Then this waste is collected by the munciple authority’s waste
collector every morning.
It is very helpful for them if we segregate our waste otherwise
they have to do it by themselves.
WASTE HANDLING AND TRANSPORT
◦ Waste handling and separation involves activities associated with
waste management until the waste is placed in storage containers for
collection.
◦ Handling also involve the movement of loaded containers to the
point of collection.
◦ Waste is transferred from a
smaller collection vehicle to
larger transport equipment
COLLECTION
Collection
- House-to-house collection
- Collection from the public bins
RECYCLING
Recycling refers to the collection and refuse of waste materials such
as empty beverage container.
Materials for recycling may be collected separately from general waste
using dedicated bins.
METHOD OF DISPOSAL
◦ 1. Dumping
◦ 2. Sanitary Landfill
◦ 3. Incineration
◦ 4. Composting
Dumping Incineration
◦ 5. Manure pits
◦ 6. Burial
CONCLUSION:
It is found that with increase in the global population and the rising
demand for food and other essentials, there has been a rise in the
amount of waste being generated daily by each household.
