RESEARCH

1. Read the published book The Nurture Assumption, by Judith Harris (1998).

(Done).

2. State in not more than 2 paragraphs the thesis of Judith Harris book.

Answer:

In my statement about the thesis of Judith Harris book is the idea that the
personality of adults is determined chiefly by the way they were raised by their
parents. She looks at studies which claim to show the influence of the parental
environment and claims that most fail to control for genetic influences. For example,
if aggressive parents are more likely to have aggressive children, this is not
necessarily evidence of parental example. It may also be that aggressiveness has
been passed down through the genes.

Indeed, many adopted children show little correlation with the personality of their
adoptive parents, and significant correlation with the natural parents who had no
part in their upbringing. The role of genetics in personality has long been accepted
in psychological research. However, even identical twins, who share the same genes,
are not exactly alike, so inheritance is not the only determinant of personality.

REFLECTION

1. Relate what you learned here to your personal development. Reflect on

your own personal development. What has helped you become the
person that you are now? Is what you have become a product of the
mere interaction of heredity and both environment? Or is what you
have become a product of both heredity and environment interacting
and what you have decided or determined yourself to become? (Self-
determination or freedom is a third factor). Write your reflections.

Answer:

I learned about the personal development of these topics; the developmental

stages, the interaction of heredity and environment or issues on human
development. With these topics it helps me to discover myself by means of
understanding how I often develop it through experiences of what I
encountered to my life. Since I was thinking about the past that I want to go
back but I can’t because it is no longer existing but then again as I know the
past serves as an experiences because every day we grow, we develop and
change by means of time flowing or the never ending time. My development
never ceases because I keep on learning and there is a change in my physical
aspects of a person. Furthermore, it helps me become the person that you are
now is looking at yourself and become with yourself which means be yourself.
In addition, for me I had become a product of both heredity and environment
interacting because since I was a kid I’m almost alike with my mother and
father with a mix of their physical body and face. But I had different
characteristics and these characteristics it’s from the influence of others or in
environment which I inhabited it since in the beginning of my early childhood
following the present adolescence. Because sometimes I see through myself as
a weather or mode changes and it goes on stable as I reach to my adolescence
period of time.
