Stone Soup Script PDF

An old beggar arrives in a village hungry and tired. He goes from door to door asking for food but everyone says they have none. Getting an idea, he announces he can make a delicious stone soup, but needs others' help gathering ingredients. Villagers begin bringing what they have - a pot, wood, salt, vegetables, meat - and everyone enjoys the soup. Pleased, the villagers insist the beggar stay and keep making his magic stone soup, ending the villagers' hunger.

Narrator 1: Once upon a time, there was an old beggar.

Narrator 2: He was very hungry but he had no food.

Narrator 1: One day he arrived at small village begging for some food to the
neighbours.

Beggar: (Talking to himself) I’m very tired and I’m very hungry.

Narrator 2 : The old beggar knocked to a door’s house and a little child
answered…

Child: Who are you?

Beggar: I’m an old and hungry man, is you mummy there?

Child: No, she isn’t.

Beggar: Ok, what a pitty! Bye bye!

Child: Bye!

Narrator 1: The beggar went to another house asking for some food.

Beggar: (Knocking at the door) I’m very hungry. Please can you give me some
bread?

Woman 1: Sorry, I’m very poor. I haven’t got any bread.

Narrator 2: The beggar knocked at some other doors.

Man 1: Who are you? What do you want?

Beggar: I’m very hungry. Please can you give me some food?

Man 1: I’m very sorry but I haven’t got any food.


Narrator 1: The beggar was very sad and he started thinking about how to get
some food.

Beggar: (To himself) What can I do? I’m very hungry and nobody wants to help
me.

Narrator 2: Suddenly the old beggar had a brilliant idea.

Beggar: I’ve got an idea…! I’ve got a magic recipe. Stone Soup! Stone soup is
delicious, but I need a big pot, some water, some wood and this magic stone.

Narrator 1: A woman who was in the street heard what he was saying and said…

Woman 2: I’ve got a pot and some water. I’ll bring it to you.

Man 2: I’ve got some wood to make the fire.

Narrator 2: The beggar started cooking the soup.

Beggar: (Tasting the soup). Mmm! Yummee! It’s very good. But it needs… some
salt.

Woman 3: I’ve got some salt. I’ll bring it to you in a moment.


(The woman goes out and enters immediately bringing the salt)

Beggar: (Adding the salt and stirring the soup) Mmm! That’s better now but it
needs some vegetables.

Man 3: I’ve got some carrots and potatoes!

Woman 4: I’ve got some cabbage and onions!

Beggar: It’s fantastic!


(Man 3 and Woman 4 go out and enter bringing the vegetables).

Beggar: Mmm! (tasting the soup). It’s very, very good, but… if we had some
meat….

Woman 5: I’ve got some chicken!

Man 4: I’ve got some pasta too!

Beggar: Great! Thank you very much! Put them in the pot!

Narrator: Everybody ate the soup and loved it.

Woman 1: Mmm! Stone soup is delicious!

Man 1: Yes, it’s true and we have soup for everybody.


Beggar: I’ m so pleased you liked it….but I must go now.

All the villagers: Please, don’t leave! Stay with us!

Man 2: Yes, you can cook stone soup with your magic stone.

Beggar: Aha! The stone! Here’s the magic stone. You can keep it.

Narrator: Finally, after eating the soup, everybody was happy and started singing.

Narrator 1: After this story all the villagers began to share their food…

 Possible variations: Depending on the size of the group, the teacher


could include more characters. For instance: another narrator, other villagers
bringing more food (ham bone, herbs, bread…).
