I am writing this letter in support of Kathryn Ellenberger who is currently seeking an elementary
classroom teaching position. Kathryn has been my student and advisee at Mount Aloysius College since
she entered the program and has been a stellar student ever since. I am happy to share with you her many
attributes that will make her a welcomed addition to your school district.
Katie is a Mercy Presidential Leader, which means from the start she has been recognized as a strong
academic student with leadership qualities. This scholarship has expectations that involves working with
prospective students throughout the year including Open House events and individual tours. She also is
expected to perform many other duties for the admissions department requiring much time management
and dedication. On top of that, she has been a member of Vox Nova during her first three years, which is
the College’s vocal ensemble. This merit scholarship is based on the member’s academic record; it
requires much dedication from the student for the many performances that take place during the year.
Despite the demands of these two scholarships, Katie has a 3.96 GPA and has never earned less than a 4.0
since she switched her major to education. She is a joy to have in class not only because she is always
well prepared and participates in all classroom discussions, but also because she is helpful to other
students and asks thoughtful questions. She is reflective, thinks critically, and has demonstrated much
creativity in designing classroom activities.
Because we have a campus childcare center, I can also attest to her work with children. She has worked at
the Little People’s Place and in almost every class has had to teach the preschoolers there. She is patient
and loving and has learned to be developmentally appropriate with young children. Again, she is always
reflective after teaching and assesses her own performances and growth.
In her junior year, Katie’s peers elected her as president of our Student PSEA. She managed the meetings
and the events with aplomb and in spite of the difficulties in getting students involved, she was able to
garner more interest and participation than in previous years. Consequently, the club performed many
activities that benefitted our campus and community.
As you can see, Katie is an exemplary student who will be a credit to any school district fortunate enough
to hire her. I offer my very highest recommendation for Miss Ellenberger and would be happy to discuss
her attributes further if you so desire. My phone number is 814-886-6447 or you can email me at
