Calculating Safe Man Hours SOP
PURPOSE:
SCOPE:
This procedure applies to all sites of SEPC
RESPONSIBILITY:
Site In-charge and Safety officer.
PROCEDURE:
Safe Man-hours shall be calculated from 1st of every month to end of the
month.
To Calculate Man hours worked
The man hours worked per month shall be calculated based on the formula
below for SEPC and Contractor workmen separately.
No. of Workmen worked in a day = A
No. of Man hours worked in a day = B
No. of hours worked on Over time = O.T (No of O.T hours x No of
workmen)
Total Man hours Worked in a day = (A x B ) + O.T
Total man hours worked for the month = Sum of total man hours
worked in a day for the month.

For example:-
If 20 workmen working for 8 hours on 1st day without overtime
Total Man hours Worked on 1st day = 20 x 8 = 160 hrs
If 15 workmen working for 8 hours on 2nd day without overtime
Total Man hours worked on 2nd day = 15 x 8=120 hrs
.

.
.
.
If 40 workman working for 8 hours on 31st day without overtime
Total Man-hours worked on 31st day = 40x 8=320 hrs

Case 2: If there are man hours lost (of NON- REPORTABLE accidents
only):
If a Non- reportable accident takes place in a site, the cumulative safe man
hours can be calculated from the sum of Cumulative man-hours of previous
month and Man-hours worked of Present month.
Cumulative man hours worked = Cumulative Man hours worked for the
previous month
+
Total Man hours worked for the present month.
Man-hours Lost= Total Man-hours lost due to Non-reportable accident

SHRIRAM EPC LIMITED
For Example:-
If there is a Non-reportable accident taking place at site leading to a man hours
lost of 5 hrs, then the cumulative man hours shall be calculated as follows,
Cumulative man hours worked for the previous month = 40000 hrs
Man hours worked for the month = 7000 hrs (excluding 5 hours lost
due to non reportable accident)
Cumulative man hours worked = 40000 + 7000 = 47000 hrs
Total Man-hours Lost = 5 hrs
Case 3: If there are man hours lost (of reportable accidents only):
If a reportable accident takes place in a site, the cumulative safe man hours
calculated till that date becomes zero and then new safe man hour calculation
shall begin.
Safe man hours for the month = No of personnel x No of working hours x No
of working days from the next date of reportable accident
For Example:-
If there is a reportable accident taking place at site leading to a man hours lost
of 24 hrs(3 days) then the cumulative man hours shall be calculated as follows,
Cumulative man hours worked for the previous month = 20000 hrs
Man-hours worked till 15th day = 5000 hrs
Total Man hours till 15th day = 20000+5000=25000
Date of reportable accident = 16th day
Total Cumulative Safe man hours worked on 16th day = 0
