MIMAROPA refers to the cluster of emerald islands and islets

stretching across the warm tropical seas due south of Southern Luzon.
Grouped together as an economic growth zone, MIMAROPA consists
of the provinces of Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental,
Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.

MIMAROPA is one of the busiest regions in terms of tourism,

cornering more than its fair share of the total number of tourists that
visit the country. The region is home to Palawan’s serene tropical
beauty as well as Puerto Galera’s beautiful sunsets and vibrant party
scene. Tourists who are looking for a rich dose of history and religion
flock to Marinduque, the country’s Lenten capital, where the famous
Moriones festival is held every year. Divers from all over the world
seek the marine wonders of Occidental Mindoro’s Apo Reef. Mountain
climbers will delight in exploring the challenging terrains of
Romblon’s Mt. Guiting- Guiting, as well as the province’s unexplored
and unspoiled beaches.

The MIMAROPA region is home to a diverse array of tourist

destinations. From natural and man-made attractions to cultural and
historical sites, its five island provinces – Oriental Mindoro,
Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan – will cater
to any kind of traveler. Its white sand beaches and rich marine
biodiversity gives way to various activities such as scuba diving, island
hopping, snorkeling, and trekking. The Apo Reef Natural Park in
Occidental Mindoro is known as the country’s diving mecca. Tourists
can swim with the fish and see the world’s second largest coral reef
system up close. On the other hand, Oriental Mindoro, one of the
country’s emerging ecotourism sites, has several islets with
picturesque landscapes. Most notable is Puerto Galera, which is part of
the Club of Most Beautiful Bays in the World.Tourists flock to
Marinduque during the holy week to experience the Moriones Festival
but the Lenten Capital of the Philippines, also known as the ‘Heart of
the Philippines’ because of the island’s shape, has much more to offer.
Tourists can explore the insides of different caves.Romblon, the
Marble Capital of the country, has many historical sites. Aside from
this, the Looc Bay Marine Sanctuary in Tablas hosts more than a
hundred marine species (fish, corals, clams, lobsters, and turtles) and

The Bicol Region or Region V (also known as Bicolandia) is one of the

17 regions of the Philippines. Bicol (also spelled Bikol) is composed of
four provinces in the Bicol Peninsula, the southeastern end of Luzon
island, and two island-provinces adjacent to the peninsula. Its regional
center is Legazpi City in Albay province.

The region is composed of six provinces, namely, Albay, Camarines

Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon and the island-provinces of
Catanduanes and Masbate.

Long before any westerners reached the region, the ancient Bicols (the
people) already has the culture of their own. They called their land
IBALON, possibly after their chieftain-DATU GAT ABAAL, who ruled
the inhabited territories from his seat of power at Sawangan on the
mouth of Makabalo River which is now the present day Legazpi City.

The sword and the cross of Spain reached Ibalon in 1570 when part of
Legazpi Urdaneta expeditionary force headed by two Augustinian
friars, Fr. Alonzo Jimenez and Fr. Juan Orca landed at the
southwestern coast of the western peninsula. The named the southern
part of the peninsula “TIERRA DE IBALON” and the northern part ,
“TIERRA DE CAMARINES”. Tierra de ibalon is also referred to as the
first Christian settlement in the island of Luzon.

After the Christianization and colonization of Ibalon , the peninsula

was divided in to two encomienda. The eastern portion. The
encomienda de Busaingan went to Pedro Arnedo, while the pther half
was given to Rodrigo Arias Giron. Busaingan which means “breaker”
was the name given to the coastal settlement of the southern tip of
Luzon, The present town of Santa Magdalena in Sorsogon Province.
The Bicol region is often the epicenter of the counterculture and
liberal politics in the Philippines.

Political Divisions: Bicol is composed of six provinces and 7 cities.

Tourism

The region has recently seen a revival in its tourism industry, due to
the popularity of Mayon Volcano, the new CamSur Water Sports
Complex, whale shark spotting, among others, which consequently
increased the number of upscale resorts in the region.

Owing to its location, Region V offers plenty of choices for visitors -

beautiful natural features like beaches, mountains and waterfalls with
lush vegetation; activities could include scuba diving to wrecked
galleons, spelunking, mountaineering; or visits to man-made
attractions like church architecture from the Spanish Colonial Period;
etc.

The municipality of Daet and Catanduanes province have long been

destinations for surfers. The opening of the Southern Luzon
International Airport in Legazpi City, which is under construction, is
hoped to further boost tourism in the region.
The Bicol Region has the distinct advantage in terms of tourism
because of the presence of Mt. Mayon as the world’s most perfect
natural cone. Add to this are beaches, natural parks and other
historical, religious and archeological sites, which are favorite tourist
destinations. The warmth and hospitality of Bicolanos are among the
other tourism assets of the region.

On the northernmost part of the region is the province of Camarines

Norte whose capital Daet, holds the distinction of being the first town
to erect the monument of the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose P.
Rizal. Naga City in the province of Camarines Sur is host to Colegio de
Sta. Isabel, the first known normal school for girls in the Orient.

The province of Catanduanes which boasts of white beaches and

resorts is an island paradise in the Pacific.

The province of Masbate, which lies exactly at the center of the

Philippine Archipelago, is known for its mining and cattle industry
while Sorsogon, the provinceknown for its historic and panoramic
places, shelters the world’s largest fish-the whale shark locally known
as Butanding.
Central Visayas is strategically located in the heart of the Philippines.
It is the gateway for foreign and domestic tourism, lying in the midst
of both air and sea traffic. Composed of four provinces namely: Cebu,
Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. The region is blessed with
beautiful beaches, a plethora of sea life, a number of caves and
potential areas for mountain trekking. Moreover, the region is steeped
in historical significance. Events ranging from the death of Portugese
explorer Ferdinand Magellan at the hands of chieftain Lapulapu of the
island of Opon (known as Mactan Island) to the blood compact
between Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Datus Sikatuna and Sigala as
well as other significance events will make a visit to the region very
interesting.The region is dominated by the native speakers of
Cebuano. Cebu City is its regional center.
Eastern Visayas or Region VIII is one of the two regions of the
Philippines having no land border with another region, MIMAROPA
being the other. It is composed of two main islands, Leyte and Samar,
connected by the famous San Juanico Bridge. It consists of six
provinces namely, Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern
Samar, Samar, Southern Leyte.

There are 7 cities that helps the economy of the region grow stronger;

 The highly urbanized city of Tacloban is the sole regional center.

These provinces and cities occupy the easternmost islands of
the Visayas group of islands.
Zamboanga Peninsula is a peninsula and an administrative region in
the Philippines. Designated as Region IX, the region consists of three
provinces, namely, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, and
Zamboanga Sibugay. The region was previously known as Western
Mindanao before the enactment of Executive Order No. 36 on
September 19, 2001. Pagadian City is the regional center.

The cities that make up the Zamboanga Peninsula Region, also known
as Region 9, are: 1. Isabela City 2. Dapitan City 3. Dipolog

Northern Mindanao is a region of the Philippines, it comprises five
provinces: Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon
and Misamis Occidental and two cities classified as highly urbanized,
all occupying the north-central part of Mindanao island, and the
island-province of Camiguin. The regional center is Cagayan de Oro
City.

There are 9 cities that occupy the Region 10 area, these

Davao Region, formerly called Southern Mindanao , is
an administrative region in the Philippines, designated as Region
XI.  It is situated at the southeastern portion of Mindanao, comprising
five provinces: Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao del
Sur, Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental, the newly created
province.

The region encloses the Davao Gulf, and its regional center is Davao
City. Dávao is the Hispanicized pronunciation of daba-daba, the
Bagobo word for "fire" .
SOCCSKSARGEN  , formerly known simply as Cotabato or Kota
Bato, is an administrative region of the Philippines, located in south-
central Mindanao.  The name is an acronym that stands for the
region's four provinces and 1 city
namely, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani 
and General Santos. The region used to be called Central
Mindanao.  The regional center is in Koronadal located in the
province of South Cotabato, and the center of commerce and industry
is General Santos, which is the most populous city in the Region.

The region is bounded on the north by Northern Mindanao, on the

east by the Davao Region, and on the southwest by the Celebes Sea.
The province of Maguindanao is situated between Cotabato
City, North Cotabato province, and Sultan Kudarat.
Caraga, officially known as the Caraga Administrative Region  or
simply Caraga Region and designated as Region XIII, is
an administrative region in the Philippines occupying the northeastern
section of the island of Mindanao. The Caraga Region was created
through Republic Act No. 7901 on February 23, 1995. The region
comprises five provinces: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao
del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands;  six
cities : Bayugan, Bislig, Butuan, Cabadbaran, Surigao and Tandag; 67
municipalities and 1,311 barangays. Butuan is the regional
administrative center.

Caraga Region, situated in the northeast section of Mindanao. It is

bounded on the north by the Bohol Sea; on the south by the provinces
of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental of Region
XI; on the west by Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental of Region X; and
on the east by the Philippine Sea of the Pacific Ocean.
