Checking of Phase Polarity & Voltage Ratio To measure rated voltage ratio of transformer & to check phase displacement between LT & HT windings of transformer By connecting leads of equipments to LT & HT terminals of transformer IEC 60076 – 1 (Clause 11.3) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.1 – ii) 2. Measurement of No Load Losses & Current To measure no load losses (iron losses) i.e. absorbed active power at rated voltage & rated frequency By applying rated voltage i.e. 420 V on LT side of transformer at rated frequency of 50 Hz while keeping HT side of transformer open IEC 60076 – 1 (Clause 11.5) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.1 – iv) 3. Measurement of Load Losses & S.C Impedance To measure load losses (copper losses) i.e. absorbed active power at rated current & rated frequency & short circuit impedance of transformer By applying rated current of primary winding of HT side of transformer at rated frequency of 50 Hz while LT side of transformer is short using copper bus bar IEC 60076 – 1 (Clause 11.4) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.1 – v) 4. Induced Voltage withstand Test To verify the voltage strength of each line terminal & its connected winding to earth and other windings and other phases By applying double voltage (840 V) at double frequency (100 Hz) for 60 seconds on LT side of transformer while keeping HT side of transformer open IEC 60076 – 3 (Clause 11.2) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.1 – vi/a) 5. Applied Voltage Test To verify the voltage strength of line & neutral terminal and their connected windings to earth and other windings (to check insulation b/w assembly and tank) By applying 28 kV at rated frequency of 50 Hz at HT side for 60 seconds while grounding neutral terminal & body of transformer using earth wire IEC 600766 – 3 (Clause 10) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.1 – vi/b) 6. Measurement of Winding Resistance To measure resistance of primary and secondary windings of transformer By connecting leads of equipments to subjected winding terminal of transformer IEC 60076 – 1 (Clause 11.2) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.1 – i) 7. Measurement of Insulation Resistance To check the insulation resistance of transformer By applying 2500 V D.C for 60 seconds on HT & LT, HT & Ground, LT & Ground IEC 60076 – 1 (Clause 11.12) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.1 – iii) 8. Bird Protection Test To check the dielectric strength of top plate for protection of bird By applying 8 kV on top plate while grounding neutral terminal & body of transformer using earth wire K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.3) 9. Paint Thickness To check paint thickness all around the transformer By using coating thickness gauge and average paint thickness shall be 120 Micron K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 15.3) 10. Pressure Test To check the leakage with pressure i.e. tightness of transformer By applying pressure of 30 kPa (4.35 PSI) of dry nitrogen gas for 8 hours IEC 60076 – 1 (Clause 11.8) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.4) 11. Dielectric Absorption Ratio To check the ratio of insulation resistance taken at different times Check insulation resistance values at 15 seconds & 60 seconds to measure ratio K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 24.1 – ix) 12. Transformer Mineral Oil Routine tests of transformer mineral oil i.e. o Specific Gravity o Viscosity o Flash Point o Acidity Value o Dielectric Strength o Moisture / Water Contents o Pour Point All tests are being performed in accordance with IEC 60296 (latest) K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 19.2) 13. Temperature Rise Test To measure maximum temperature difference (temperature rise) of transformer oil & winding with reference to external cooling medium By applying total losses (copper + iron) to HT side of transformer while LT side of transformer is short with copper bus bar until temperature of oil is saturate and measure the temperature rise using change in resistance method IEC 60076 – 2 (Clause 7.3 to 7.7) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 20.2) 14. Lightening Impulse Test To determine the ability of insulations of the transformer to withstand transient voltages due to lightening By applying lightening impulse full wave of 75 kV and chopped wave of 83 kV on each phase of transformer while short other phase through shunt resistance and earth it with transformer body and LT terminals IEC 60076 – 3 (13.2), IEC 60076 – 4 (7.4), K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 22.2) 15. Transformer Mineral Oil Type test of transformer mineral oil i.e. o Oxidation Stability o Dissipation Factor All tests are being performed in accordance with IEC 60296 (latest) IEC 60296 (Clause 6.5, 6.12) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 19.1) 16. Short Circuit Test To verify the ability of transformer to withstand without any damage the thermal and dynamic effects of external short circuit under symmetrical fault condition By applying rated current (calculated by specified formula) on HT side for 2 seconds of transformer while LT side is short with copper bus bar IEC 60076 – 5 (latest) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 21.1) 17. Measurement of Zero Sequence Impedance To measure impedance in ohm per phase at rated frequency between line terminal and neutral terminal of transformer By using specified formula (3U/I) where U is test voltage and I is test current IEC 60076 – 1 (Clause 11.6) & K/R&D/DT/28 Rev – 05 (Clause 23.1.1 – iii) 18.
