Q. “Social research and social research methods are embedded in wider contextual factors. They are
not practiced in a vacuum”. Please elaborate, explaining the roles of the influencers.

A. Social research is research that is based on different topics that are related to social scientific
fields in order to understand their concepts and their theory by coming up with several
interpretations from their findings.
Social Research and its methods are not taken place in a vacuum. There are certain factors that
are included in the context of social research and its methods. Some of these factors include:
 Different theories used by social scientists
 Existing knowledge
 Researchers own view about the relationship between theory and research
 Assumptions and views (epistemological view etc)
 Training and personal values of the researcher
The list of factors can go on but the social research and the choice of the research methods
employed are dependent on many wider influences.
