Annotated sources (D1, D2, D3, D4)
coding) (D2)
This source is useful to my project because…
Sub question 1:
I wasn’t previously aware that…
Reference
This is what I would expect because… /This is unexpected because…

Excerpt from source, key findings highlighted (D1) An interesting point was…. because…

The source didn’t…..

Now I need to…

Do not just answer the above questions every time!

Key Findings (D3)

What are the key things you learnt about your sub question/overall question?

Currency: Relevance:

Authority: Accuracy:

Purpose: Capability (D4)

NOT NECESSARY FOR EVERY SOURCE – Must do at least 1 per sub question:
How did the source relate to the capability?
What did you learn, develop or what challenged you?
What can you do now as a result of this development?

Question Refinement (P1)

ONLY AS NECESSARY. Every time sub questions and/or overall question refines – do a reflection:
How has your question/ sub question refined and why?
How has this changed the direction of your research?
SACE Number:
You can choose to keep using the method above, use another template (see following pages) , copy the structure from an
A+ folio, or use the below guides to ensure you are covering each performance standard 😊

What do they need to show?

D1 Development of the Research:

 A range of credible sources appropriate to your topic – with a Harvard reference for each
 Evidence of the source (e.g copied and highlighted key parts of text, your notes, scanned annotated hard copies)
 ‘New research Leads’ could be identified

D2 Analysis of information to develop the ideas:

 An evaluation of the source – (A CRAAP test or a reflection on validity, reliability and credibility, bias)
 Use of analysis sentence starters to annotate the text
 Reflection on how the source has helped answer your question
 ‘Comparison’ to other sources

D3 Development of Knowledge and Skills:

 ‘Key findings’ or ‘Development of Knowledge’ reflections

 Some questions you can use to prompt these reflections:
- What are the key findings in answering this sub question?
- What do you now know about the topic?
- Has the sub question been fully answered?
- How has the answer to the sub question contributed to answering the overall question
- Is there anything you still need to research?
 Reflection on ‘Skill Development’ e.g. interviewing, creating surveys, finding relevant sources, analsying sources,
practical skills (not necessary for everyone)

D4 Understanding and Development of Capability:

You should have 4 Capability Reflections throughout the folio. A source might prompt this, or you might do one for each sub
question. Use the following questions to GUIDE your response. The dot points in the capability document can also help.

How did the source relate to the capability?

What did you learn, develop or what challenged you?

What can you do now as a result of this development?

SUMMARY OF KEY FINDINGS:

 USE DOT POINTS TO SUMMARISE THE KEY FINDINGS OF YOUR SELECTED SOURCE

SOURCE ANALYSIS AND REFLECTION

Under each heading there are suggested points to discuss. These are not to be responded to as questions and answers but as a guide for a paragraph
response. Use the sentence starters below for the sections that match the colours– only use the ones that are relevant !
