Hybrid Pi (π) -model for CE

The document discusses the need for a high frequency pi-model of a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) that accounts for internal and parasitic capacitances which limit the transistor's usage at frequencies above 1 MHz. It reviews the existing low frequency hybrid model and introduces the hybrid pi-model which modifies the low frequency model to include the effects of these capacitances. The document then discusses the circuit components and parameters of both the low and high frequency models, and covers transconductance, input/feedback/output conductances, capacitances, short circuit current gain, and frequency response.

Need of High Frequency pi-model
• low frequency small signal
model of BJT can amplify the
frequencies below 1 MHz.
• For frequencies higher than 1 MHz
the response of the transistor will
be limited by internal and parasitic
capacitance’s of the bipolar
junction transistor.
• low frequency small signal model
will be modified to include the
effects of internal and parasitic
capacitance’s of bipolar junction
transistor.
• These capacitance’s limit the usage
of BJT at higher frequencies.
