Session 1 Introduction To The VERICUT Simulation: 1. Open Project File Vericut - Vcproject

This document provides an introduction and instructions for using VERICUT simulation software. It describes how to open a preconfigured project file, simulate 3 setups with stopping at the end of each, visually inspect the part, identify errors that cause the simulation to stop, and use mouse controls to rotate and zoom the part. The goal is to teach the user how to load a project, simulate it, recognize errors, and use VERICUT's visual inspection tools.

Session 1

Introduction to the VERICUT Simulation

If you are using a CAD/CAM interface to transfer the information to VERICUT, the
project is already configured for you, your tool library is created, and your stock was
imported and located. This session will teach you how to load a pre-configured project, to
simulate it, zoom and rotate,

1. Open project file vericut.vcproject

• Launch VERICUT
• File > Open
• Shortcut = Library
• File = vericut.VcProject
• Open
• Display the Project Tree

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 1

• In the Project tree, select Project: vericut, right-click, Expand All Children

This project file contains 3 setups; each setup contains its own machine, control, NC
Programs, fixtures and tools. When cutting, the cut stock will be carried from setup to
setup.

2. Configure VERICUT to stop at the end of each setup
• In the Project tree, select Project: vericut, right-click, Motion
• Stop At = End of each Setup

• Press F1, the Help menu will come up. VERICUT Help is context sensitive. In
any menu or window, press F1 for additional information and tips
• OK

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 3

3. Cut the first setup
• Play to End

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 4

4. Visually inspect the part
• Zoom to Box Click and drag with the left mouse button to select the area to
zoom in (instead of the icon, the middle mouse button can be used to zoom to a
box)
• Zoom on the top right push clamp

• With your cursor in the Workpiece view, right-click, Fit (or use Fit in the
toolbar) to fit the whole part to the window

A red mark indicates an error in VERICUT. Errors are automatically reported and a red
mark is shown if:
• The cutter removes some material on the fixture
• The cutter removes some material on the part at a Rapid feedrate (G00)
• the non-cutting portion of the tool (holder or shank) remove material on the part

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 5

5. Cut the second setup
• Play to End

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 6

In the Project Tree, the active setup is highlighted (bold letters)

6. Visually inspect the part
• Zoom to Box Click and drag with the left mouse button to select the area to
zoom in (instead of the icon, the middle mouse button can be used to zoom to a
box)
• Zoom on both bolts touched by the cutter

The model is in an unrefined state for faster zoom, pan and rotate

7. Refine the display

• In the Toolbar,

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 8

8. Cut the last setup
• Play to End

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 9

9. Look at errors in the message area
• Pull down the VERICUT Logger; all the errors are temporarily recorded. You can
scroll up to see all errors

10. Stop the simulation at every error

• In the Project tree, select Project: vericut, right-click, Motion
• Check Stop At Max Errors
• OK
11. Reset Simulation and cut again
• Reset Model

• Yes
• Play to End
The simulation will stop at: Error, SHANK Collided with stock at record 186
• Zoom in Box (Click and drag with the left mouse button to select the area to
zoom in)
• Zoom on the cutter area
• In the Toolbar,

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 10

Notice the red mark, the tool is an insert tool that has a non-cutting area in its center. The
holder portion of the cutter assembly came in contact with the part. This type of errors
can easily go undetected on the machine resulting in a damaged tool and/or part.

12. Rotate the part

• In the Workpiece view, Right-click, Accelerated (OpenGL)
• In the Toolbar: Dynamic X Rotation
The cursor now displays the same icon
• Left-click in the Workpiece view and move the cursor up or down to rotate about
the horizontal of the screen.
• Dynamic Y Rotation
• Left-click in the Workpiece view and move the cursor Left or Right to rotate
about the Vertical of the screen
• Dynamic Y Rotation
The cursor returns to the Pick mode
• Dynamic XY Rotation
• Left-click in the Workpiece view and move the cursor Left or Right, Up and
Down to rotate.
• Dynamic XY Rotation
The cursor returns to the Pick mode

Mouse dynamic view also works “one-handed” as follows:

• Hold down and drag left button – Rotate
• Hold down and drag middle button – Zoom to box
• Hold down and drag right button - Pan
• Mouse wheel – Zoom in/out

VERICUT V6.1 Session 1 11

The original mouse button controls still work:
• Shift + left button – Pan
• Control + left button – Zoom in/out
• Control + shift + left button – Rotate

13. Exit VERICUT

• File > Exit
• Ignore All Changes
Conclusion
In this session, we have seen how to run a pre-configured project file, how to stop at
certain events in the program and how to visually recognize program errors.
