The teacher will introduce the list and have the students tell what the list has in common. The

say the word and read the definition. The teacher will have the students use spelling city to test
their spelling knowledge through Spelling Unscramble on the Smartboard. Students will come up
and put the word in order. The teacher will also have the class spell the word and unscramble the
word as a whole.

study at home. If time permits during the day or at computer time, students may get on spelling
City to practice their words.

teacher will use informative through the daily games. The teacher will use formative through the
test at the end of the week on Spelling City.

Wrap-Up (Lesson Closure) / Concluding Activity: The teacher will tell the students to
continue to study each night.

Reflection: During my 64- hour placement, I noticed that the teacher did not incorporate time for
spelling and that the students spelling grades were extremely low. I wanted to incorporate time
for spelling and make the time be engaging and beneficial to the students. I incorporated a
variety of games to aid the students in spelling. I tried to use technology for spelling two times a
week, I would often use spelling unscramble or the definition game on Spelling City. Students
loved to play these games and were competitive. During this time students would correct or help
their peers. I always allowed students to take their definition and part of speech quiz on Spelling
City on Friday. I often gave them their spelling test orally, but a few times I allowed them to take
it on Spelling city. I noticed students did slightly better when taking their spelling on Spelling
City, but my cooperating teacher preferred written tests.

I believe that spelling games that engaged students were one of my strengths. I felt that students
enjoyed them and asked to play different ones. I noticed students had different favorites. I feel
that my weakness in spelling was not having enough time to truly focus on spelling like I would
have liked. I also feel that I did not have time to work one-on-one with spelling with those who
needed it. I hope in my own classroom that I will set time to discuss each word and help students
one-on-one with spelling. I hope to learn more games and websites that will help me to
incorporate spelling technology in the classroom. I love Spelling City, but I hope there is another
game have students engaged on their chrome books such as a race to spell.
