2. Brief Description of the Course

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a comprehensive and fundamental rule or belief for
leading and operating an organization, aimed at continually improving performance over
the long term by focusing on customers while addressing the needs of all stakeholders. It
is both a philosophy and a set of guiding principles that represent the foundation of a
continuously improving organization.

The course is divided into two parts and the first part covers the principles and practices
of TQM. The student will learn the basic TQM concepts of leadership, customer
satisfaction, continues process improvement and Statistical Process Control.

The second part deals with tools and techniques of TQM. The student will learn about the
benchmarking, quality management systems, quality by design, ANNOVA & Design of
Experiments

Upon successful completion of the module students will be able to:

 Describe TQM philosophies, strategies and important quality concepts such as


customer focus, employee empowerment, and continuous improvement.

 Explain various tools and techniques of quality management such as


benchmarking, QMS, quality by design etc.

 Analyze Statistical Process Control charts and related techniques.
