A Request

This document is made for my (Manjunath M Gaddi) understanding and if anything is wrong please
give me the opportunity to correct the information by informing me what is wrong and what is the
right information.

As per my understand, Time is the basic currency of Astrology and unless one’s understanding of the
measurement of time is correct, the astrological analysis made be one may not be accurate, which
implies that the astrological analysis is more or less wasted.

I have just summarised the various definitions of time as described in the document released by
the Dharmic Scriptures team.

Time as in Padma Purana

1 Kashtha = 15 Nimesha
1 Kala = 30 Kashthas
1 Muhurtha = 30 Kala
1 Human day & night (Ahoratra) = 30 Muhurthas
1 Month = 30 Human days & nights (Ahoratras)
1 Ayan = 6 Months
Dakshniayan is night for gods, Uttarayan is day for gods
1 Human Year = 12 Months
1 God's day & night = 12 Months
1 God's Year = 360 human years
1 Chaturyuga = 12,000 god years
1 Chaturyuga = 43,20,000 human years
1 Brahma day = 1000 Chaturyugas
1 Brahma day = 1,20,00,000 god years
1 Brahma day = 4,32,00,00,000 human years
1 Brahma day = 1 Kalpa
A period of Manu is called Manvantar and 14 manus appear in 1 Brahma's day i.e.
71 Chaturyuga = 1 Manvantar
1 Manvantara = 8,52,000 god years
1 Manvantara = 30,67,20,000 human years
360 Kalpas = 1 Brahma Year (This is my assumption)
100 Brahma years = 1 Par / Life Span of Brahma
50 Brahma years = 1 Parardha

I’m assuming 1 Brahma Year has 360 Kalpas, as it is not mentioned in the content in Padma Purana

Each 'Manvantar' is named after a Manu and is equivalent to little more than 71 Chaturyugas. It also
has its own Indra, Saptarishis and other deities.

This is the period after which a Brahma's day is over and a deluge (as causal dissolution (Naimittik
Pralay) (markandeya purana)) takes place when all the three worlds becomes devoid of life due to
unbearable heat.

Lord Brahma then takes rest for the same period (4,29,40,80,000 yrs) which is his night.

(Can any one explain this discrepancy as per calculations 1 Brahma day is 4,32,00,00,000 where as
its given in the Puranas document that the Brahma day and night have same human years and that is
4,29,40,80,000)

After the night is over, Lord Brahma again commences his creation. So, this process continues for the
whole period of Brahma's life span, i.e. 100 yrs.

The Following table tries to bring parity between the current 24 hour, minute and second time
measurement with the one described in Padma Purana. This is my analysis

Seconds Minutes
1 Nimesh 0.21
1 Kashtha 3.2
1 Kala 96 1.6
1 Muhurtha 2880 48
1 Ahoratra 86400

Chaturyuga/ Mahayuga Calculations (all nos in God Years)

Sandhya Sandhyansh
Satya Yuga 4000 400 400
Treta Yuga 3000 300 300
Dwapara Yuga 2000 200 200
Kali Yuga 1000 100 100
Total 10000 1000 1000
Each yuga is followed by the hibernation periods of 'Sandhya' and Sandhyansh
Four yugas are equivalent to twelve thousand years of the gods, Four Yuga are collectively known
as 'Chaturyuga'

For sake of repetition, I have put “Until Kalpa, all the metrics stay the same as in Padma Purana”. The
corresponding Purana doesn’t say “Until Kalpa, all the metrics stay the same as in Padma Purana “

Time as defined in Shiv Maha Purana

Until Kalpa, all the metrics stay the same as in Padma Purana
1 Brahma Year = 1000 Brahma days
1 Brahma Yuga = 8000 Brahma Years
1 Brahma Savan = 1000 Brahma Yugas
1 Brahma's Lifespan = 3000 Brahma Savans
1 Vishnu's Day = 1 Brahma Life span
1 Rudra's Day = 1 Vishnu Life span
1 Shiva's Day = 1 Rudra's Life Span
1 Shiva's Life Span = 5,40,000 Rudra Life Spans /Shiva's days

Time as defined in Kurma Purana

Until Kalpa, all the metrics stay the same as in Padma Purana
1 Brahma Year = 360 Kalpas
100 Brahma Year = 1 Parardha

Time as defined in MARKANDEYA PURANA (this is WIP)

The life span of Brahma consists of Dwiparardha
100 Brahma Year = 1 Para
1 Parardha = 500 Para
