EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Users:

These Tableau dashboards are intended to analyse Car insurance claims in detail, to
support future decision making and to provide better customer service.

Assumptions:

YOJ (Year in which the car owner applied for the car insurance policy) = (current
year-number of total years given in the dataset).

Cut-off’s assumed below are clearly based on the total customers who purchase the
insurance.

Conclusion:
From the below set of charts we can get the customer segments on whom to target
and whom not to target.
W.r.t Occupation:

We can happily target the customers who have % claims with respect to total
customers greater than 15%. This will keep the company in a safer position
even if the claims frequency goes up a bit. Ignore customers who are not
working.
W.r.t. Income Group:

It’s very clear that we need to target the customers whose income is >100000
dollars. Even here, we can consider the cut-off to be 15%. Doing this we are
not losing the maximum customer base. We can even try and catch hold of
other customers in the acceptable income groups. Try and ignore customers
with no income.

W.r.t. Home Value Group:

Customers who do not own a house shouldn’t be ignored straight away. Go


through the other factors like their income, occupation etc., before accepting
their applications. Customers, who own houses has to be targeted. Even in
this case, we can consider the cut-off to be 15% subject to few constraints
which were mentioned already.

W.r.t Age Group:

We can see that most of the customers are between the age groups of 58 and
77. In this case we can keep the cut-off as 10% as the few members from one
group might move to the other group every year. So, we need to target
customers whose age group ranging between 48-57, 58-67 and 68-77.

Apart from the above factors, we need to consider few most important factors before
accepting the insurance application.
First is Car Age – based on the car age and condition we need to set a threshold
limit on the claimable amount.
We need to set a limit on the number of claims a customer can make in a particular
year.
Now that we have identified the Best and worst customers, we need to plan some
promotions or offers to retain the best existing customers and at the same time we
need to remove the worst customers from the company’s list.
Also, we need to plan some advertising campaign to attract new customers. We
need to make sure that the targeted new customers should satisfy the above listed
constraints.
