Chapter 2 Methodology

This chapter outlines the methodology used in the research study. The researcher utilized a descriptive method to gather data from 218 automotive servicing graduates from 2005-2010 at Mountain Province State Polytechnic College through questionnaires, interviews, and document analysis. Only 55 graduates, or 26%, responded. The questionnaire gathered general information and assessed perceptions of curriculum usefulness and suggestions for improvement. CHAPTER 2

Design and Methodology

This chapter is a presentation of the methodology of research and

research design, as well as the locale and population of the study, data-gathering

instruments, construction of questionnaire, sources of data, data gathering

procedures, and the treatment of data.

Research Design

The researcher utilized the descriptive method of research. According to

Calderon and Gonzales (as cited by Licudine, G.N. et al. 2012), descriptive

studies are purposive processes of gathering, analyzing, classifying and

tabulating data about prevailing conditions, practices, processes, trends and

cause-effect relationships and then making adequate and accurate interpretation

about such data with or without the aid of statistical tool. Collecting data was

supplemented by documentary analysis, observation and informal conferences

with the concerned respondent.

Locale and Population of the Study

The respondents of this study were the two hundred eighteen (218)

Automotive Servicing Graduates of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic

College from Academic Year 2005-2006 to AY 2009-2010. The researcher

made use of the population but only fifty five (55) or 26 % of the respondents

were retrieved.

Data-gathering Tools

The following data-gathering methods were utilized:

The researcher looked into the files of the Registrar’s Office regarding the

data of the graduates since AY 2005-2006 to AY 2009-2010 along the following:

(1) names and addresses of the graduates; (2) the year they had graduated; (3)

the courses taken.

Questionnaire-Checklist. This is composed of four parts. The first part was

on the general information regarding the respondents. They were also asked

about their status of employment. The third part of the questionnaire-checklist

consist of questions on the respondents perception on the usefulness of the

automotive servicing curriculum and the last part are items on the suggestions of

the graduates to enhance and improve the 6 months automotive servicing

course.

Data Gathering Procedures

The researcher asked permission from the College Registrar of the Tadian

Campus to make use of their records. The researcher personally distributed and

retrieved the accomplished questionnaires. Those out of the community were

contacted through mails, through the students, or any other means. To cross-

check some information, interviews with the respondents were done.

Treatment of Data
28

The data and information obtained from the respondents through

interviews and the accomplished questionnaire from the respondents were

tallied, tabulated, analyzed and presented in tables and figures as bases for

analysis and interpretation.

The descriptive measures used in the treatment of the data were

percentage, frequency count, mean and rank.
