Table of Goodness of fit test is reversed 1-α

This document discusses different types of statistical hypothesis tests including paired tests for samples measured before and after treatment, unpaired tests like the Z or T test, and chi-square tests for categorical variables. Chi-square tests can be used for goodness-of-fit tests to compare an observed categorical variable distribution to an expected one, or tests of independence to determine if two categorical variables are related. These tests compare observed sample frequencies to expected frequencies based on the null hypothesis, with differences likely due to sampling error.

Paired Tests (same sample, but before and after a treatment or intervention)

Unpaired Tests Z or T
Hypothesis Testing on Categorical Variables (Chi-square)
Used to estimate how closely the distribution of a categorical variable matches an expected
distribution (goodness-of-fit test),
Used estimate whether two categorical variables are independent of one another (the test of
independence)
The observed frequencies will almost always differ from the expected frequencies due to
sampling error.
H0: The population distribution of the variable is the same as the proposed distribution
H1: The distributions are different
The frequencies obtained from the sample are called observed frequencies.
The frequencies obtained from calculations are called expected frequencies.
