1. TRAI launches mobile app for subscribers to register complaints against pesky calls, SMSes: Coming down hard on
telemarketers, TRAI has launched a mobile application for telecom subscribers to register their complaints against pesky
calls and SMSes easily. It will be available on Android and Apple iOS. Earlier options of filing a complaint included for-
warding the SMS to 1909 and mentioning the mobile number or informing telecom operators through customer care number
or through e-mail. However, the app will show an SMS in a list form and mobile numbers from the source. Customers need
to click on the check box to select such SMSes or calls and then click on report option to file complaint. TRAI has mandated
all telecom operators to disconnect telephone numbers from which such calls or SMSes originate.
2. World's first 3D-printed aircraft THOR displayed at International Aerospace Exhibition: World first-ever 3D printed
aircraft called THOR by Airbus was recently displayed at the International Aerospace Exhibition in Schoenefeld. THOR is
short for Test of High-tech Objectives in Reality. It is a 3 part windowless, 3D printed aircraft which weighs just 21 kg. It is
less than 4 metres in length and printed using a substance called Polyamide. The giant aviation companies like Airbus and
Boeing already use 3D printing technology to create various parts used in their huge passenger planes.
3. Large amount of ammonia gas detected on Jupiter: Massive amounts of ammonia gas has been observed on Jupiter by
researchers from The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley). Jupiter’s thermal radio emissions are partially ab-
sorbed by ammonia gas. So, on the basis of the amount of absorption, researchers can determine the amount of ammonia
present on Jupiter and its depth. These observations will further help to learn the regions of Jupiter’s atmospheres, cloud
formation and global circulation of Jupiter. The studies will also shed light on other giant planets in the solar system. Jupi-
ter’s ammonia-rich gases form upper cloud layers, where the ammonium hydrosulphide cloud (-73 degrees) & ammonia ice
cloud (-113 degrees) are formed.
4. Astrophysicists discover Canarias Einstein Ring in space: An international team of astrophysicists discovered a new op-
tical Einstein ring called Canarias Einstein Ring (two perfectly aligned galaxy, namely source galaxy and lens galaxy). Ein-
stein Ring is a distorted image of a galaxy, the source galaxy is 10,000 million light years away and lens galaxy is 6,000 mil-
lion light years away from earth. The research findings were published in the monthly notices of the Royal Astronomical
Society. The discovery was done by doctoral student Margherita Bettinelli from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias
(IAC) and the University La Laguna (ULL) of Spain. The chance discovery was made when Bettinelli was examining data
taken through the "Dark Energy Camera" (DECam) of the 4m Blanco Telescope at the Cerro Tololo Observatory in Chile.

5. Scientists identify process to remove DNA molecules from X-Files: As per findings published in the journal titled ‘Nature
Structural & Molecular Biology’, scientists from University of Sheffield have decoded process of removal of branched DNA
molecules from the iconic double-helical structure. In reality, far from being alien in origin, branched DNA are formed in
the blood. These branches are essential intermediates formed during the process of copying our DNA. The discovery shows
how Flap EndoNuclease (FENs) trim branched DNA molecules after the cells divided. The scientists found the FEN threads
the free end of the branch through a hole in the enzyme before sliding along to the trunk where it acts like a pair of molecu-
lar clippers, trimming the branch and restoring the iconic double-helix. Understanding the working mechanism of FENs will
help to engineer better and more reliable tests and tools for laboratory research and hospital diagnostics labs or pave the way
for discovery of new drugs.

6. IUPAC adds 4 new elements to the Periodic Table: The International Union of Pure & Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) re-
cently added four new elements to the Periodic table. Nihonium, Moscovium, Tennessine, and Oganesson are the recom-
