c. Two values calculated in a and b, which is more reliable.

Both methods can be used to measure concentration of caffeine in energy


drink. However, peak height and peak area differs in terms of representation of the
data. Peak height usually needs to have a perfectly symmetrical shape (Figure 1) so
that it can be more accurate. Also, the baseline noise also should be low. In HPLC,
baseline noise usually higher than GC. Meanwhile, for peak area in HPLC, it can
represent an accurate reading as it does not affect much by the unsymmetrical shape
of the peaks.

Hence, it can be concluded that peak area is more reliable as in HPLC because of its
ability to ignore baseline noise that usually more higher than GC.
