The key takeaways are that Jesus said one must be born again in order to enter the kingdom of God, and that being born again is not optional or conditional but is a necessity. Being born again involves a notable devotion to God as Lord over one's life and a reduction in sin.

To be born again means to undergo a spiritual transformation where one's relationship with God changes - they become devoted to God as their Lord and Master, and experience a reduction in sinful behaviors and desires. It is a deliberate decision to follow Christ.

Many people are not born again because they want to remain worldly and indulge in sin, they feel unworthy or unable to change, or they have never properly understood what it means to be born again and how to experience it.

Understanding Salvation: Lesson One

You must be born again!

1
You must be Born AGAIN

John 3:3-7 NKJV

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born
again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a
second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the
Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

Jesus was talking to a religious man yet told him that he must be born again. You
can be religious by not born again.
It is important to note that Jesus is the one who coined the term Born again, it is not
Pentecostal or modern.
Furthermore, observe that Jesus said, YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN. It is not
optional, or conditional. It is a must.
You do not become born again by going to church or being baptized or having
Christian parents. Being born again is very deliberate and obvious.

How do you know if you are born again,

1. Salvation is traceable. You should be able to trace it to a period of time and from
that time there should be a notable devotion for God as LORD over your life.
2. It comes with a huge reduction and finishing of sin.
3. You have a 100 percent assurance of salvation. You know that if Jesus came
today you would make it to heaven.

2
Why many people are not born again.

1. The desire to be worldly

- There are people who have just chosen the path of being worldly in behavior and
just do not want to change
John 3:19 NKJV
And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men
loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
- Others like the idea of Jesus as their Saviour but do not want Him to be their
Lord, that is MASTER

2. the sin factor

When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me,
for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” Luke 5:8 NKJV
- In the above verse Simon thought he had sinned so much that he avoided
Jesus.
- Many feel unworthy, unwanted, dirty in God’s presence that they think they
have to go and clean up their act before getting saved.
- In Luke 7vs31-40 Jesus showed that he who sinned much loved much and he
allowed a sinful woman to interact with Him

3. No one has ever explained it properly to them.

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how
shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they
hear without a preacher?
Romans 10:14 NKJV
- The biggest reason many are not saved is because they just haven’t gotten an
accurate explanation of what it really means to be born again and how they
can be born again
3
- That is the reason why some are still holding back.
In the next lesson we will explain the concept of being born again in a clear
manner.
