WEATHERFORD HOMCO™ CASING

SCRAPER
The HOMCO Casing Scraper is a durable tool used to remove mud, cement,
imbedded bullets, perforation burrs, rust, mill scale, etc., from inside casing
walls. A smooth inside casing diameter paves the way for successful downhole
operations, such as packer setting, swabbing, squeezing tools, HOMCO casing
patch, etc.
Operations which leave obstacles in the casing include cementing and perforating,
It is after these jobs, and before the rotary rig is removed, that the HOMCO Casing
Scraper is used to good effect.
The tool is operated on drill pipe or tubing simply by raising and lowering or by
rotation.

CONSTRUCTION
The finest alloy steel is used in manufacturing the HOMCO Casing Scraper. A rigid
HOMCO policy assures proper design and production to achieve the best in
performance.

The Casing Scraper incorporates six precision-machined pockets to receive the

blades. These slots are located so as to overlap. This assures 360° coverage by the
blades within the casing.

Blade teeth are of helical design which promotes the most efficient shearing action.
Also, the blades are tipped with tungsten carbide and ground to close tolerances to
guarantee uniform cutting edges. Blades are spring-loaded and held in firm contact
with the casing at all times.

Blades of the scraper are held in the body by retainer rings. Blades are replaced in the
field simply by removing the retainer rings and screws.

OPERATION
The HOMCO1 Casing Scraper is run on tubing, or drill pipe above the bit and can be
rotated or spudded up and down.
It is recommended , for most efficient results, that the scraper be run first without
rotation. This initial run will shear imbedded or projecting bullets and remove
prominent burrs.

The scraper is then pulled back above the

zone being cleaned before rotation is
started. After rotation is initiated the
scraper is slowly lowered. This technique,
because of tooth design on the blade,
assures a smooth
bore, The 360° coverage makes it
impossible to pass an obstruction.

It is recommended that circulaiton be

maintained at all times during scraper
operations, particularly while cement is
being removed. Sometimes it is desirable
to run a bit basket above the scraper
because of light mud or low-volume
pumps. Weatherford can provide Type
“P” Bit Baskets.

It should be noted that the scraper may be Blade Cross Section Casing
run at the same time a bit run is made. Scraper

BEST OILTOOL CASING SCRAPER

The BEST OILTOOL CASING SCRAPER * removes all mill scale, burrs, cement sheath, mud cake and any foreign
matter from the inside wall of the casing forming a perfectly smooth and clean surface for the proper seating
of packers. The number and the width of the scraping blades is so arranged that the tool scrapes 360° (full
circumference) of the casing while being lowered into the well bore without the necessity of rotating if so
desired. The scraper may also be run immediately above the bit while drilling out plugs.

The tool can be described as a two row, six to eight blade type. It is the simplest and most rugged scraper of
its type available. These scrapers are manufactured from the highest quality alloy steel, properly heat treated.
The blades are hard faced with tool steel and precision ground to fit the internal contour of the casing.
