Transformation Lesson Plan

This document provides a summary of a mathematics class for students in Class 2 CG that took place from 11:10-12:10 am on October 11th, 2018. The topic was isometric transformations, with a focus on describing changes in shapes, sizes, directions, and orientations under transformations. The objective was for students to identify transformations through position, size, and appearance. The activities involved students pressing their palms dipped in watercolors onto paper in different orientations, and observing the resulting shadows from a flashlight on their partner's hands. Students were then asked to conclude the orientations of the movements. Cross-curricular elements included fashion design and vehicle design. Materials used included workbooks, textbooks, worksheets, watercolors, and

Theme/ Topic Isometric Transformation
Content Standard 11.1 Transformations
Learning Standard 11.1.1 Describe the changes of shapes, sizes, directions, and orientations
of an object under a transformation, and hence explain the idea of one to
one correspondence between points in a transformation.

Objective Students should be able to identify the transformation trough position,

size, and appearance.
PL 4
Activities
1. Students sit with their partners.
2. Students dip both sides of their palms into the water colour and
press the palms onto the drawing paper side by side.
3. When the right palm is coloured, students press their right palm
twice side by side with one side a little lower with another side.
4. Students repeat Step 3 but the second impression is in a twist as
if the hands are waving.
5. Students direct the flashlight to the palm of their partners’ hand
and notice the resulting shade on the board. They should move
the flashlight forward and backwards to see the size of the
shadow.
6. Students conclude the orientation of the movement for Steps 2-
5.
7. Representatives explain the orientation of the movement.
