Introduction:
1 min  Students sit and face the screen
Body: Carnival of the Animals
 Begin with the Wild Donkeys: read and listen, asking students to listen to
12 mins why it might sound like wild donkeys
 Do the same with the Tortoises movement: reviewing quick the different
instruments in the score and the family they are a part of- if there is still
lots of time, move on to Elephants
TRANSITION
 Reteach the tune: Ding Dong I’ve Got the Rhythm in my Head
ding dong ding dong hot dog!
 Form two circles half the students in the inner circle facing the outer circle.
Sing the song and do patty-cake style with your partner. On Hot- clap own
12 mins hands. On dog- clap partner’s hands. On Ding Dong move heads from side
to side- revised: students will pat once and clap once instead
 Inner circle moves to switch partners

 As you are teaching it, ask students to count how many times you sing
certain things so that they really understand how the tune goes
 Students get into formation and try it
 If students are really getting it, try different ways of singing it- for instance
outer circle sings ding dong, inner circle sings I’ve got the Rhythm in my
Head
Closure: Ada’s Violin
5 mins  If time, finish reading Ada’s violin
 Line up at the door
