This music lesson plan introduces students to the four families of orchestra instruments (strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion) through discussion of examples and short videos, with the goal of students being able to identify and distinguish between the families. The lesson will use excerpts from Camille Saint-Saëns' "Carnival of the Animals" to demonstrate different instruments. A formative assessment at the end will review students' understanding of the four families of orchestra instruments.
