 The length displayed on the image is configured on the basis of the length measured
from a detector surface. This means that a common difference can be occurred between
the actual length and the measured one, because the actual exposure part has uniform
height from the detector surface. For this reason, the length measured from Viewer
should be used as a reference data only. Vieworks has no responsibility for the result
caused by the measured length information.

 For more information, refer to <7.26 Correcting Pixel Spacing of Image> or <11.8.2
Detector Menu>.

The principle of pixel spacing

 Pixel Spacing: Distance between mid points of pixels in relation to OID.
 When a distance between an object and a detector increases, the image size gets bigger by a
magnification. The pixel spacing- a scaled distance between mid points of pixels becomes longer
relatively.
 When a distance between an object and a detector reduces, the image size becomes similar to the real
size of the object. The pixel spacing becomes shorter relatively.

 Pixel Spacing Correction: As the physical pixel pitch is fixed, measure a magnification for correcting pixel
spacing as follows;
1 Measure the length of an object.
2 Mesure the length of an object projected on the image under the specific SID and OID conditions.

Pixel Spacing Example

When OID gets farther away

When OID gets closer

Terms
 Real Size: Calculate the object’s real length of the desired part through the magnification calculated by
pixel spacing correction, and display the image in real size.
 Image Pixel Spacing Correction: Applies the result of pixel spacing correction for single exposed
images.
 Detector Pixel Spacing Correction: Applies the result of pixel spacing correction for all images acquired
from each detector.
 Magnification: Image size of the object / Object size = SID/(SID-OID)

9.1 Stitching Images

 Stitching images is a function that connecting two or more images as a unified one.
 You can stitch up to 6 images.
 The stitched image cannot be connected to other images again.
 Only the same size images can be stitched together.
 When stitching images which have different brightness and contrast, the conditions are adjusted
automatically.
 When adding steps after stitching, the stitched image is added as a new image.
 This function provides two type of stitching – Physical Matching (auto stitch) and Pattern Matching
(manual stitch).
 This document explains the way to use Pattern Matching.

 VXvue Vehicle does not provide the stitching function.

 There are two ways of stitching images as follows.

 Pattern Matching: Recognizes patterns of the acquired images and matches them with
their similar parts.
 Physical Matching: Integrates U-Arm with the viewer and matches the images
automatically by calculating their overlapped parts physically through SID and OID.
 Check the prerequisites when using the Physical Matching button for stitching images.
Refer to <System Integration Guide> for the detailed information.
 Integration of U-ARM with the viewer. (Check interoperability.)
 Set the Use Auto-Stitching option in the Setting mode > System panel > Integration
tab.
 Take images by using Stitch step.

 Take images in the consecutive order of height.

 Contact the engineer in Vieworks for the detailed information about system integration.

VXvue Operation Manual

 The way to input OID for measuring actual image size is as follows.
 When you create a study for the first time by using the step registered in Stitch
Protocol, the Auto Stitch Option dialog displays.

 This option is used for measuring the distance between a centerline of an object and
surface of a detector (or bucky). Enter the distance in Object Distance for calculating
actual measurement and applying it to the images to be stitched.
 Set OID value from the Setting mode > System > Intergration tab to calculate the
distance of actual measurement in every time you stitch images.

 Besides OID, it is necessary to perform the pixel spacing of a detector to get the correct
image size. Refer to Detector Menu in VXvue Service Manual for the detailed information.

VXvue Operation Manual

9.5 Exposure Index

 VXvue can measure the intensity of x-ray dose reaching a detector through the subject and indicate it as
the exposure index by making a correlation calculation with gray level.
 VXvue can measure the exposure index automatically through specific algorithm (extracted effective
value of the subject area from the image) and indicate it on the Overlay area of the image view.
 E.I. (Exposure Index)
 Target E.I (Target Exposure Index)
 D.I. (Deviation Index)
 If you try to calculate exposure index without a subject, take images by selecting a specific step (EI –
Pattern 25). This step calculates E.I of 25% area of the image from its center.

9.5.1 Exposure Index (E.I.)

 E.I is the correlation exponent between x-ray dose and gray level displayed on the image.
 The E.I range of Vieworks’ detector is between 0 ~ 10000.
 The range can be different depending on each detector model.
 We use E.I defined from IEC62494-1.

9.5.2 Target Exposure Index (Target E.I.)

 Target exposure index (Target E.I) is the expected optimal exposure index.
 You can preset Target E.I for each step and find the difference with the actual E.I.
 Target E.I is set differently depending on the detector model, diagnostic purpose, and image processing
parameter.

9.5.3 Deviation Index (D.I.)

 Deviation index indicates the difference between Target E.I and E.I. Therefore, set both Target E.I and E.I
to measure deviation index.
 With D.I, you can judge the exposure to each body part against the target exposure index.

Formula
 You can measure the deviation index as follows.
EI
DI = 10 * log10 Ex) D.I. = 10 * log (1361/1300) = 0.199
EI T

Rev.86b27 Page 226 of 255 RA14-135-012

VXvue Operation Manual

Range and background color of D.I

 Range of D.I : 9.9 ~ 9.9
 The background color is indicated differently depending on the D.I value.
 If the E.I value is improper to measure D.I, set the value again.
Background Range Description
Red -9.9 < D.I. < -4 Severely lack of exposure.
Orange -4 ≤ D.I. < -2 Lack of exposure.
Green -2 ≤ D.I. ≤ 2 Optimal exposure.
Orange 2 < D.I. ≤ 4 Exceed the optimal exposure.
Red 4 < D.I. ≤ 9.9 Severely exceed the optimal exposure.

9.5.4 Setting the Target Exposure Index

 You can set the Target Exposure Index

 Setting  Procedure Manager  Step tab.

 Move to Exposure or Viewer mode > Click on the Target E.I button.

 Refer to <7.23 Changing Target E.I.> for the detailed information about setting the target
exposure index with Target E.I button.
 Refer to the guide ‘Exposure Index Settings’ provided by Vieworks to check the
recommended target E.I for each body part.

 The allowed input range is 100 ~ 5000 and the default value is 286 ~ 500 depending on each body
part.

 The default value of target E.I for each body part in VXvue is 500 if you create a new
body part. As target E.I is largely affected by the actual exposure environment, you should
set the target E.I accorded with the environment when it needs to be changed.
