Cell Membranes Questions

The phospholipid bilayer is approximately 5-10 nm thick. At a magnification of 3 million times, the width of the cell surface membrane would be: Width of bilayer (nm) = 5-10 nm Magnification = 3,000,000x To calculate the width in micrometres: Width (nm) / Magnification = Width (μm) 5 nm / 3,000,000 = 0.000005 μm = 0.005 μm 10 nm / 3,000,000 = 0.00001 μm = 0.01 μm Therefore, the width of the cell surface membrane in micrometres is between 0.005 - 0.01 μm.
