Module 6 Activity - Measurement

1. The document is a test on measurement topics for the student Gia Layne C. Porquerino from Santa Isabel College of Manila. 2. The test contains two sections - a matching section with 10 items and an analytical thinking section with 4 measurement problems. 3. The analytical thinking section involves converting between units, calculating depth in meters from fathoms, and determining equivalencies between Earth and Mars days and years.

L. Hypothesis
K 8.y-axis
M. Law
J 9.density
N. Pythagorean theorem
A 10.A logical approach to the solution of a problem O. Physics

II. Analytical Thinking and Computation: Solve each problem. Show your complete solution. (3 points/problem)
1. Conversion of units:
a. How many kilograms are in 1 gigagram?

1 gigagram * 10^6 = 1000000 kilograms

b. How many cubic dekameters are in 16 liters?

1 liter = 1000 cubic cm

1 cubic decametre = 1000000000 cubic cm
= 1000000 liters

16 / 1000000 = 0.000016 cubic decametres

c. How many nanograms are in 1 hectogram?

1 hectogram * 10^11 = 100000000000

nanograms

d. How many milliliters are in 65 microliters?

65 microliters * (1 milliliter / 1000 microliters)

= 0.065 milliliter
2. A part of the West Philippine Sea is 5, 968 fathoms deep. What is the depth in meters? (1 fathom = 6 feet)

PHYSICAL SCIENCE – MEASUREMENTS

5968 fathom * (6 feet / 1 fathom)
= 35808 feet * ( 0.3048 meters / 1 feet)
= 10914.28 meters

3. Suppose that one day on Mars is 8.864 x 10 4 seconds long and a year is 3.743 x 108 seconds long.
a. How many Earth days are equivalent to 1 day on Mars?

1 day = 24 hrs = 1440 mins = 86400 seconds

88640 / 86400 = 1.026 Earth days

b. How many Earth days are equivalent to 1 year on Mars?

1 yr = 12 mos = 48 wks = 336 da = 8064 hrs = 483840 mins = 29030400 secs; 374300000 / 29030400 = 12.89
Earth years

12.89 yrs * (12 mos / 1 yr) = 154.68 mos * (4 wks / 1 mo) = 618.72 wks * (7 da /1 wk) = 4331.04 Earth days

c. How many Mars days are in 1 Mars year?

1 day = 88640 seconds; 1 year = 374300000 seconds

374300000 / 88640 = 4222.70 Mars days

4. What is the volume of a 1 carat diamond if 1 carat is 200 mg?

200 mg = 0.2 ml

0.2 ml / 1000 = 0.0002
