1. A vector is a quantity that has both magnitude and direction. It can represent things like force, velocity, and displacement. A vector is represented by an arrow and has a tail and a head. 2. The document provides examples of vector terms and problems. It asks students to identify terms like vector, scalar, resultant, and equilibrant. It also gives word problems involving vectors to solve using graphical or analytical methods. The problems involve concepts like adding vectors, finding components of forces, and calculating displacements over multiple days with vectors in different directions. 3. The student worksheet aims to build skills in vector concepts, identification, graphical representation, and analytical problem solving through examples involving physical quantities that can

TOPIC: VECTORS

I. Identification: Identify each term being asked for each number and write the answer on space provided.

_______________ 1. A quantity composed of a magnitude and direction.

_______________ 2. A single force that is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction to the resultant of several
forces acting on a point.
_______________ 3. A quantity that is classified as either scalars or vectors.
_______________ 4. The method of adding and subtracting vectors without computation.
_______________ 5. A quantity that has magnitude only.
_______________ 6. The symbol that represents a vector quantity.
_______________ 7. Finding the sum of two vectors that requires the use of trigonometry.
_______________ 8. It is drawn from the tail of the first vector to the head f the last vector.

II. Analytical Thinking and Computation: Solve each problem. Show your complete solution if applicable. (3
points/problem)
1. When is the vector sum of two quantities equal in magnitude to the scalar sum?

2. Could the net force ever be zero when two unequal forces are exerted on a table?

3. Two forces act on an object. A 36-N force acts at 225°, a 48-N force acts at 315°. What would be the magnitude
and direction of their equilibrant?

PHYSICAL SCIENCE
4. A geologist walks 14 km due east, then 18 km north.
a. What is the total distance walked?

b. What is the resulting displacement of the geologist from starting point? Solve by graphical and analytical
methods. Use a scale of 2 km = 1 cm.

5. A man pulls a rope attached to a crate with a force of 120N. If the rope makes an angle of 130° with the ground,
find the components of the force. (Draw the diagram using a scale of 10 N = 1 cm.

6. With the aid of a ruler and a protractor, find the resultant of the following vectors by graphical method: 15 km
directed 45° north of west and 12 km directed 30° north of east.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE
7. Using analytical method, find the exact displacement after 5 days by getting the resultant with the following
data:
Day 1 – 30 miles, East of Columbia
Day 2 – 45 miles, 40° North of East
Day 3 – 50 miles, North
Day 4 – 25 miles, 70° West of North
Day 5 – 15 miles, South
