BEING THERE

Jerzy Konski

Aguillon, Czarinne Maye M.

Gas 11 – C

Jerzy Kosinskin is the novelist of the novel, “BEING

THERE”. He was born on June 14, 1933, in Lodz, Poland. His novel Being There was

published on April 21, 1971 by Harcourt Bace Jovanovich. The novel “Being There” is an

allegorical tale about a man named Chance whose experience of the world is limited to

his work as a gardener and what he has seen on television. Over the course of seven

days, Chance leaves his employer and navigates his way through high society.

Being there is a 1970 satirical novel by Polish-American writer Jerzy Kosinski. Set

in America, it centers on Chance, a simple gardener who unwittingly catches the

attention of the political world when his homespun musings on modern life turn him

into an in-demand pundit. This book is parable that is used to illustrate a moral and

spiritual lesson. The entire book takes place over seven days and begins on Sunday. He

lives in a Manor with his employer, known only as the Old Man. The maid calls him

upstairs and tells him that the Old Man has died in his sleep. Chance meekly says

goodbye to his employer and watches as the body is removed. The next morning,

Chance meets with Thomas Franklin, the estate’s lawyer. The lawyer tells Chance that

there’s no record that Chance ever worked there. He tries to get Chance to sign a

document, but Chance never learned to read or write. Chance refuses to sign, and the

lawyer tells him he must move out the next day. On Tuesday morning, Chance packs

and pays one last visit to his garden. As he leaves, a limousine backs into Chance and

injures his leg. The woman in the limousine takes him to her home where his leg is

patched up. That night, he has dinner with EE and Benjamin Rand. Considering this
novel as a modern classic, the different versions left out the important details that

makes it as its weakness. And the events is realistic that makes it as strength. I

recommend this book to everyone to read because it is worth reading.

I would give this novel 4 stars it is beautiful. The events of the study is so

realistic. The novel was great but a little bit hard to understand for me because of the

highfalutin words and it’s not actually not entertaining, but this is not satire trying to

take a rise out of political or social absurdities. All in all the story was great. It contains

very pertinent observations about life and society.

Frankenstein

Mary Shelley

Raro, Princes

Gas 11-C

Mary Shelley is an English novelist who's known for

Frankenstein. She was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England. She's the only

daughter of Mary Whollstonecraft, the early feminist, and William Godwin, the political

writer and novelist. Her famous novel, Frankenstein was published on January 1, 1880

in Lackington, Hughes, Hardling, Mavor & Jones. The novel tells the story of gifted

scientists, Victor Frankenstein, who succeeds in giving life to a being of his own

creation. However, this is not the perfect specimen he images that it will be, but rather

a hideous creature who is rejected by Victor and mankind in general. The monster

seeks its revenge through murder and terror.

The novel, Frankenstein, highlights the theme of individual responsibility as well

as social responsibility. Victor's ambitious project of the creation of a new life reflects

the lack of realization of the individual responsibility. Robert Walton tells how he met

Victor Frankenstein in the Arctic after earlier having seen a gigantic figure crossing the

ice. Victor's mother dies of fever just before he leaves to study at University. While at

University, his interest in science becomes an obsession. He uses dead bodies to

experiment on and creates a monster. A monster that kills his brother William, but

Justine is executed for it. The monster and Frankenstein meet again. The monster begs

Victor to build him a female companion. Victor agreed to the monster. While

constructing the female creature, he realized the consequences of what he is doing, so

he decided to destroy the new creature. The monster, who has followed Victor, is

enraged and in revenge kills Victor's wife, Elizabeth. The book is written as a series of
narratives in the first person; introduced as a series of letters from an explorer to his

sister, then as a recount of Victor Frankenstein’s tale. The language is representative of

English typical in the 19th century. However it is quite simple and easy to understand

the prose is very free-flowing. The plot is built up masterfully and the two main

characters are remarkably well sketched. This novel centers around two memorable

characters - Victor Frankenstein, the sympathetic character with an enquiring mind and

an ambitious scientists. However, his ambition leads him to become arrogant and

extremely single-minded. And the other character is the creature which he creates,

known simply as the monster. The monster that is eight-foot-tall, hideously ugly

creation of Victor. He is intelligent and sensitive. He attempts to integrate himself into

human social pattern, but all who see him shun him. His feeling abandonment compels

him to seek revenge against his creator. Frankenstein is an entertaining story. While the

story is one of horror as a result of the monster’s gruesome killing spree, it has many

overarching themes, and plenty of moral dilemmas that makes it as its strengths.

Considering this book is viewed as a classic piece of literature, the different versions left

out important details and it makes as its weakness. I recommend this book because the

moral lesson is worth reading. Despite of the slow beginning of the story, it is great.

I would give this novel 4 stars because it is a beautiful work and an

excellent motives, emotions actions pervading the human mind. The book appear

simple enough at first glance, however by the end of the story, I was left wondering as

to the real nature of “evil" as it is called. Generally this book regarded as a horror story

but I would disagree. Frankenstein is full of sadness and tragedy. Every victor’s love

one’s died because of his creature, while the monster feels rejected because he was

abandons by his creator.

This book I give 5 stars because I make so insane that story because of different

characters and powers. It’s just a fantasy in real world if you imagine what happing by

the every word that I'm read in the book its make me inside the story but I'm the

audience. In this story they have a biggest and important character die in an awful way.

By the hands of someone he trusted the most. In the last part all the students and

teachers in Hogwarts are longing on Dumbledore's death.
