This document provides step-by-step instructions for installing a DMR code plug onto a TYT MD-380 radio for the first time or to update an existing code plug. The instructions guide the user to download the necessary programming software, connect the radio to their computer via USB, open an existing code plug file, edit it to include their call sign and DMR ID, and then write the updated code plug back to the radio. Following all steps should result in a radio that is programmed correctly.

on
that

That
will
download
the
program
to
your
computer.
It
will
show
up
in
your
“Downloads
Folder”
unless
you
told
the
PC
to
put
it
someplace
else.
NOTE:
IGNORE
THE
‘FIRMWARE’
FILES
JUST
BELOW.
Those
can
only
get
you
in
trouble.
2.
Once
you
have
the
software
installed
on
your
PC,
then
connect
the
USB
Cable
that
came
with
your
MD380
HT
to
the
computer
and
the
HT.
(HT
Should
be
OFF
when
connecting
the
cable!)
Launch
the
software
program
and
turn
on
the
HT.
In
the
Program’s
Main
Menu
Bar,
select
“Program”
and
then
drop
to
“Read
Data.”
The
program
should
“read”
the
HT
into
the
computer.
If
this
happens,
you’ll
see
a
“Progress
Bar”
until
it
reports
“Read
Completed”
or
something
like
that.
If
the
program
does
not
“read”
the
HT
it
will
give
you
a
message
like
“Check
the
USB
cable
to
make
sure
it
is
correctly
installed.”
Do
so.
If
the
cable
is
firmly
connected
to
the
HT
and
the
PC…try
again.
If
you
get
the
same
message,
then
e-‐mail
Steve
Smith
([email protected])
for
help.
Turn
off
the
HT.
Close
the
Program.
When
it
asks
“Do
you
want
to
save?”
Click
“Don’t
Save.”
Continue
to
the
next
page…and
follow
the
rest
of
the
procedure
there…

from
the
first
page,
OR:
IF
you
are
replacing
an
existing
code
plugs,
then
START
HERE:
Launch
the
Program.
In
the
File
Menu,
click
“Open”
and
select
the
“Generic
MD380….”
Code
Plug.
(Make
sure
you
use
the
latest
version.)
On
the
left
side
of
the
window
that
opens,
click
“General
Settings”
In
the
upper
right
corner:
Enter
Your
Call
as
the
Radio
Name.
Use
the
“shift
key”
to
get
capital
letters.
Below
that,
enter
your
DMR
ID
Number.
Click
“Save”
in
the
File
Menu.
Then,
same
page,
in
the
lower
right
corner,
In
the
space
labeled:
Intro
Screen
Line
1,
enter
your
call
again,
Leave
the
info
in
Intro
Screen
Line
2
alone.
That
is
the
“Version
Number”
of
the
Code
Plug.
It
may
be
helpful
in
future
trouble-‐shooting
activities.
Again,
Click
“Save”
in
the
File
Menu.
Then
turn
the
HT
on.
Go
back
to
the
“Program"
item
in
the
Main
Menu
Bar,
click
it
and
select
"Write
Data.”
A
Progress
Bar
will
show
you
that
the
Code
Plug
is
being
written
to
the
HT.
When
finished
the
HT
will
restart.
Let
it
do
so,
then
turn
it
off.
Shut
down
the
PC
Program.
When
it
asks
if
you
want
to
“Save”
click
“Save”
or
“Yes”
or
whatever.
Disconnect
the
cable
to
the
HT.
Turn
the
HT
“On.”
This
should
result
in
a
perfectly
programmed
HT.
(Or
a
HT
with
the
latest
Code
Plug)
