Installing

a  DMR  Code  Plug  Step  by  step….

IF  this  is  the  “first  time”  installing  a  code  plug  on  a  brand-‐
new  radio  which  has  not  yet  had  our  code  plug  installed:

1.    The  Program  runs  best  on  a  Windows  10  PC.  If  you  have  something  else,  check
with  Steve  Smith,  Pat  Gannon  or  Ray  Bratton  first.

If  you  don’t  already  have  the  Program  that  the  Code  Plugs  run  in,  start  here:

http://www.grapevineamateurradio.com/software-‐downloads/

Scroll  down  to:  TYT  MD-‐380  DMR  Programming  Software

Click  on  that  line!

That  will  download  the  program  to  your  computer.  It  will  show  up  in  your
“Downloads  Folder”  unless  you  told  the  PC  to  put  it  someplace  else.

NOTE:  IGNORE  THE  ‘FIRMWARE’  FILES  JUST  BELOW.  Those  can  only  get  you  in
trouble.

2.    Once  you  have  the  software  installed  on  your  PC,  then  connect  the  USB  Cable  that
came  with  your  MD380  HT  to  the  computer  and  the  HT.  (HT  Should  be  OFF  when
connecting  the  cable!)

Launch  the  software  program  and  turn  on  the  HT.

In  the  Program’s  Main  Menu  Bar,  select  “Program”  and  then  drop  to  “Read  Data.”

The  program  should  “read”  the  HT  into  the  computer.  If  this  happens,  you’ll  see  a
“Progress  Bar”  until  it  reports  “Read  Completed”  or  something  like  that.

If  the  program  does  not  “read”  the  HT  it  will  give  you  a  message  like  “Check  the  USB
cable  to  make  sure  it  is  correctly  installed.”  Do  so.  If  the  cable  is  firmly  connected  to  the
HT  and  the  PC…try  again.  If  you  get  the  same  message,  then  e-‐mail  Steve  Smith
([email protected])  for  help.

Turn  off  the  HT.

Close  the  Program.  When  it  asks  “Do  you  want  to  save?”  Click  “Don’t  Save.”

Continue  to  the  next  page…and  follow  the  rest  of  the  procedure  there…

Continue  from  the  first  page,  OR:

IF  you  are  replacing  an  existing  code  plugs,  then  START

HERE:

Launch  the  Program.  In  the  File  Menu,  click  “Open”  and  select  the  “Generic
MD380….”  Code  Plug.  (Make  sure  you  use  the  latest  version.)

On  the  left  side  of  the  window  that  opens,  click  “General  Settings”

In  the  upper  right  corner:  Enter  Your  Call  as  the  Radio  Name.  Use  the  “shift  key”
to  get  capital  letters.

Below  that,  enter  your  DMR  ID  Number.

Click  “Save”  in  the  File  Menu.

Then,  same  page,  in  the  lower  right  corner,  In  the  space  labeled:  Intro  Screen
Line  1,  enter  your  call  again,

Leave  the  info  in  Intro  Screen  Line  2  alone.  That  is  the  “Version  Number”  of  the  Code
Plug.  It  may  be  helpful  in  future  trouble-‐shooting  activities.

Again,  Click  “Save”  in  the  File  Menu.

Then  turn  the  HT  on.

Go  back  to  the  “Program"  item  in  the  Main  Menu  Bar,  click  it  and  select  "Write
Data.”

A  Progress  Bar  will  show  you  that  the  Code  Plug  is  being  written  to  the  HT.  When
finished  the  HT  will  restart.  Let  it  do  so,  then  turn  it  off.

Shut  down  the  PC  Program.

When  it  asks  if  you  want  to  “Save”  click  “Save”  or  “Yes”  or  whatever.

Disconnect  the  cable  to  the  HT.

Turn  the  HT  “On.”

This  should  result  in  a  perfectly  programmed  HT.  (Or  a  HT  with  the  latest  Code
Plug)

End.
