Alignment

The document outlines the steps for performing a pre-alignment check and field alignment of equipment. It includes checks for runout, softfoot, shims, piping stresses, and leveling the base. Final alignment is done according to Rolls-Royce standards and checked again after operation at rated conditions. Adjustments may be made at the hot check as needed to ensure alignment tolerances are met.

Pre-alignment check

 DBHE/DBSE

 Alignment jig sagging -

 Baseplate & Rigid Coupling Check -

 Runout Check - A shaft coupling hub runout check using dial indicators shall be performed
prior to alignment for acceptable runout tolerances. Check the concentricity and squareness
of the shaft by rotating the shaft 360. Ensure that the difference from zero (as read from
each indicator) is within tolerances

 Validity Rule - Sets of measurements should be taken and re-taken until they are repeatable
and are supported by the validity rule.

 Static Piping Stress Check - Shall be checked at the time when piping is to be secured and
before the final alignment is performed.

 Cold alignment - Individual shaft systems are misaligned in the "cold" condition to
compensate for the differential thermal growths and movement from other dynamic forces.
The coupling is designed to absorb "in transition" misalignments which diminish from non-
running (cold) to running (hot) of the train. A "cold" precision alignment is done first, but
alignment is not completed until a check has been made after the unit has been run on load.

 A softfoot check using dial indicators shall be performed prior to and after final alignment to
ensure good support foot contact. If softfoot exceeds allowance at any foot, a feeler gauge
softfoot check shall be performed to identify nature of problem. Refer to contract Alignment
Diagram for allowable softfoot readings.

 Shim pack count under any foot shall not exceed four (4) shims (1 fixed, 3 lamainated).
Machinery feet shall be stoned or flat filed to insure good contact of foot surfaces and shims.
Shims shall be stainless steel, free of rust, grit, and burrs and lightly oiled. Shims with varying
thickness, waviness, or distortions should be discarded.
Field alignment check

Set and level base. Refer to gem 0045 for skid leveling procedure.

Check shims under component feet. A maximum of three (3) shims should be used; one (1) solid and
two (2) laminated.

Locate shafts per assembly alignment.

Rough align equipment per rolls-royce alignment standard gem 0130 or equivalent.

Grout per rolls-royce standard gem 0033 and applicable rolls-royce drawings.

Final align equipment per rolls-royce alignment standard gem 0130 or equivalent. Check for
softfoot. Check for piping stresses. Check rolls-royce standard ger 0147 for alignment tolerances,
soft foot allowance, and piping stress allowance. Record all final alignment data.

Turbine supports are factory set and dowelled to baseplate and should not be moved to achieve
final alignment.

Cold alignment offset values are calculations from projected growths at rated conditions. Actual
offsets may vary. Hot alignment check may be performed if desired.

An alignment check is recommended after running at rated conditions per gem 0130 or equivalent.
Make adjustments as necessary. If within final alignment tolerances, dowel all driven equipment in
place as specified by each manufacturer.
