There are two main types of quantitative research designs: experimental and non-experimental. Experimental designs allow the researcher to control variables and limit alternative explanations, using methods like true experimental, quasi-experimental, and pre-experimental designs. Non-experimental designs, also called descriptive research, use no external variables and collect data without changing anything, employing surveys, correlational studies, ex-post facto studies, evaluative research, and comparative methods. Quantitative research uses numerical data to make conclusions and examples include surveys, correlational studies, and ex-post facto research.
