Complex Numbers

This document provides a 3-sentence summary of careers that use complex numbers and provides a real-life example: Careers like economists, electrical engineers, quantum physicists, and sales analysts use complex numbers in important ways such as predicting business cycles, calculating electrical currents, modeling quantum physics probabilities, and predicting sales trends. As a real-life example, the document explains how cellular data communication uses a combination of sine waves (using real numbers) and cosine waves (using imaginary numbers) in OFDM symbols. The document aims to show that complex numbers are important in many everyday applications.

Solve this! 1. (1 + i)2
2. 2 + 3i
4 − 5i
1. = 1×1 + 1×i + 1×i + i2

= 1 + 2i − 1
Answer
= 0 + 2i

2. = 2 + 3i × 4+5i = 8 + 10i + 12i + 15i2

4 − 5i 4+5i 16 + 20i − 20i − 25i2

= 8 + 10i + 12i − 15
16 + 20i − 20i + 25

= −7 + 22i

= −7 + 22i

WHAT IS THIS
PRESENTATION ALL
ABOUT?
Careers that use complex number and the use of
complex number in a real-life tool example.

Our goal is we want the audience to learn that

complex number is important in our everyday life!!!
CAREER
ECONOMISTS
Economists use complex numbers in order
to make profit predictions, when analyzing
business cycles, and to determine the
internal rate of return such as the yield on
a bond, or an economic duration.

ELECTRICAL
ENGINEER
Electrical engineer use complex number regularly in there career. One
example is using complex number to calculate electrical currents.

Engineers and scientists will often use a

number
REAL WORLD EXAMPLE
An electrical circuit has a currents of (2+j) amps and a resistance of (1-3j) ohms. What is
the voltage of the circuit?
V = (I)(R)
V = (2+j)(1-3j)
V = 2-6j+j-3j^2
V = 5-5j volts

V=IxR
QUANTUM PHYSICIST
In the world, where nothing is known precisely. We
have quantum physicists operate it, for example, the
quantum particle’s location. The location suggests in
terms of probabilities. These calculations are
incredibly complex and take place on a
three-dimensional rather than scalar plane. But
complex numbers make these calculations possible.
SALE ANALYST
Sales analysts uses complex numbers to predicts and
understand sales process. For example, a sales
analyst might use complex numbers to calculate
regression or determine the year in which sales might
reach a specific, desired number.

CELLULAR TECHNOLOGY
Cellular data(All of LTE), all communication is communicated from the base station to the phone using symbols called
OFDM. An OFDM symbol is actually just a combination of a sine waves and a cosine wave.
