CANVAS ACTIVITY 1and2

The document provides two examples applying the Law of Sines and Law of Cosines to solve for missing angles and side lengths in triangles. In the first example, the angles and a side length are given for a triangle formed by a drone, man, and lawn mower. The Law of Sines is used to calculate the missing side lengths. In the second example, the side lengths are given for a triangle formed by three trees. The Law of Cosines is used to calculate the missing angles. A second set of examples follows the same process of applying the trigonometric laws to solve for missing values in triangles.

CANVAS ACTIVITY 1

REAL LIFE
APPLICATION OF
LAW OF SINES AND
COSINES

LAW of Sine

A man just left his house to go and mow the grass in his garden when suddenly
he noticed a drone flying above him. He figured that the angle of elevation of the
drone was 6ft away from him he also noticed that the drone and the lawn mower
was 60° and 95° apart find angle C a and c

Solution:

A = 60° B = 95° C = 25°

a = 4.3465ft b = 5ft c = 2.1211ft

C = 180°-(60°+95°)

C = 180°-155°

C = 25°

LAW of Cosine

A man saw some nearby trees when he walks past them he noticed that the trees
are apart from each other in a very triangular way. He got the distance between
each tree are 12ft 22ft and 18ft. Now solve A B C

Solution
A = 54.8443° B = 33.0285° C = 92.1272°

a = 18ft b = 12ft c = 22ft

Cos A −1 = Cos B −1 =

Cos A −1 = Cos B −1 =

Cos A −1 = Cos B −1 =

Cos A −1 = Cos B −1 =

Cos A −1 = -0.5758 Cos B −1 = 0.8384

A = 54.8443° B = 33.0285°
C = 180° – (54.8443°+33.0285°)
C = 180°-87.8728
C = 92.1272°
