Justification For Drug Testing
Justification For Drug Testing
Justification for drug testing is an action showing something to be right and responsible.
Because of its knowledge, goodwill, and good intentions, the organization such as WADA
(World Anti-Doping Agency) and ADAMAS (Agensi Anti-Doping Malaysia) knows what is
best for others and for society. These organizations say banned drugs undoubtedly place athletes
at risk presently or in the future. Since athletes can be pressured by social conditions to make
poor choices, especially when young, the sport leader has an obligation and a moral
responsibility to make good decisions for the athlete. Thus, drug testing removes the burden from
athletes of having to choose whether or not to use drugs.
Next, the justification is to know the level of integrity in sports whether on athletes or
coaches. In high performance sense integrity often refers to issues around the use of supplements
and performance enhancing substances or doping issues. Even those traditionally high
performance issues such as supplements and doping are increasingly being seen to impact at a
grassroots level of sport. This is on top of a myriad of issues that impact on how fair and safe
sport is. One thing is for sure, for sport to remain safe, fair and inclusive, people and
organizations need to have integrity.
Another justification for drug testing is to equalize competition. This rationale assumes
that only by banning ergogenic aids will competitions match athletes versus each other on a level
playing field.
Educating against drug use in sports
Moral education program that affiliated with the laws may provide the key to a fair and
just playing field as athletes, coaches, and sport managers discuss what is good and bad. When
they know why drug is illegal and then if they get caught, they possibly will ruin their future in
sports. People involved in sport should examine their beliefs and values through cognitive
dissonance.
Next, the important of health effect of drugs is one of the ways for educating against
drug. This is just another way to stay away from drug. We have to show what health risk can
happen if we take drug and also learn the basic principle about drug.
Education potentially can convince athletes about the reality of the health risks associated
with drug use. However, something needs to take when we sick or have allergies so we must use
prescription drugs whether or not they are athletes. It cannot be use for recreation purposely.
Knowing the prescription of drug can have bade side effect even the prescription is for us.
